What is Video Editing ?
Video editing is the process of manipulating and
rearranging video shots to create a new work. Editing is
usually considered to be one part of the post production
process — other post-production tasks include titling,
colour correction, sound mixing, etc.
Types of Video Editing Software:
1. Windows Live Movie Maker (Microsoft) .
2. Pinnacle Studio (Pinnacle Systems) .
3. Premiere Pro (Adobe) .
4. Vegas Pro (Sony Creative Software) .
5. Apple iMovie (Apple) .
6. Final Cut Pro (Apple) .
7. Wax (Debugmode) .
8. Movie Edit Pro (Magix)
Premiere Pro:
Adobe Premiere Pro is a timeline-based video editing
app developed by Adobe Systems and published as part of the
Adobe Creative Cloud licensing program. First launched in
2003, Adobe Premiere Pro is a successor of Adobe Premiere (first
launched in 1991). It is geared towards professional video
editing, while its sibling, Adobe Premiere Elements, targets
consumers market.
CNN was an early adopter of Adobe Premiere. Also, in
2007, BBC adopted Premiere. It has been used to edit feature
films, such as Gone Girl, Captain Abu Raed, and Monsters, and
other venues such as Madonna’s Confessions Tour.
Windows Live Movie Maker :
Windows Movie Maker (formerly known
as Windows Live Movie Maker in Windows 7) is a
discontinued video editing software by Microsoft. It is a
part of Windows Essentials software suite and offers the
ability to create and edit videos as well as to publish them
on OneDrive, Facebook, Vimeo, YouTube, and Flickr.
Movie Maker was officially discontinued in
January 10, 2017 and it will be replaced by Windows Story
Remix in late 2017.
Pinnacle Studio :
Pinnacle Studio is a video editing program originally
developed by Pinnacle Systems as the consumer-level counterpart to
Pinnacle's former professional-level software, Liquid Edition. It was
acquired by Avid and later by Corel in July 2012. Pinnacle Studio
allows users to author video content in Video CD, DVD-
Video, AVCHD or Blu-ray format, add complementary menus and burn
them to disc.
Pinnacle Systems offers an affiliate sales program for the
Pinnacle Studio Product line.
In the second half of 2007, Pinnacle introduced VideoSpin,
a shareware version of Studio with fewer features; it was discontinued
in March 2009.
Vegas Pro :
VEGAS Pro is a video editing software package for non-linear
editing (NLE) originally published by Sonic Foundry, then by Sony Creative
Software, now owned and run by Magix Software GmbH.
Originally developed as an audio editor, it eventually developed into
an NLE for video and audio from version 2.0. Vegas features real-time
multitrack video and audio editing on unlimited tracks, resolution-
independent video sequencing, complex effects and compositing tools, 24-
bit/192 kHz audio support, VST and DirectX plug-in effect support, and Dolby
Digital surround sound mixing. Up to version 10, Vegas Pro runs on Windows
7, Windows 8, and Windows 10. Version 11 dropped support for Windows XP,
and version 12 is 64-bit only. Version 13 dropped Windows Vista support. On
24 May 2016, Sony announced that it sold Vegas (and most of its "Creative
Software" line) to MAGIX, who would continue supporting and developing
the software.
Apple iMovie :
iMovie is a video editing software application sold by Apple
Inc. for the Mac and iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPad Mini and iPod Touch). It
was originally released in 1999 as a Mac OS 8 application bundled
with the first FireWire-enabled consumer Mac model – the iMa DV.
Since version 3, iMovie has been a macOS-only application included
with the iLife suite of Mac applications. From 2003, iMovie is included
free with all new Mac computers.
iMovie imports video footage to the Mac using either
the FireWire interface on most MiniDV format digital video cameras
or the computer's USB port. It can also import video and photo files
from a hard drive. From there, the user can edit the photos and video
clips and add titles, themes, music, and effects, including basic color
correction and video enhancement tools and transitions such as fades
and slides.
Final Cut Pro :
Final Cut Pro is a series of non-linear video editing
software programs first developed by Macromedia Inc. and later Apple
Inc. The most recent version, Final Cut Pro X 10.3, runs on Intel-
based Mac computers powered by OS X El Capitan or later. The software
allows users to log and transfer video onto a hard drive (internal or external),
where it can be edited, processed, and output to a wide variety of formats. The
fully rewritten Final Cut Pro X was introduced by Apple in 2011, with the last
version of the legacy Final Cut Pro being version 7.0.3.
Since the early 2000s, Final Cut Pro has developed a large and
expanding user base, mainly video hobbyists and independent filmmakers. It
had also made inroads with film and television editors who have traditionally
used Avid Technology's Media Composer. According to a 2007 SCRI study,
Final Cut Pro made up 49% of the United States professional editing market,
with Avid at 22%. A published survey in 2008 by the American Cinema Editors
Guild placed their users at 21% Final Cut Pro (and growing from previous
surveys of this group), while all others were still on an Avid system of some
kind.
Wax :
Waxes are a diverse class of organic
compounds that are hydrophobic, malleable solids near
ambient temperatures. They include higher alkanes
and lipids, typically with melting points above about
40 °C (104 °F), melting to give low viscosity liquids. Waxes
are insoluble in water but soluble in organic, nonpolar
solvents. Natural waxes of different types are produced by
plants and animals and occur in petroleum.
Movie Edit Pro :
Movie Edit Pro is a consumer-
based nonlinear video editing software designed
by German Magix Software GmbH for the PC. It is
the best selling video software in
European retail. The first version was published in
2001. According to the developer, it applied the
principles of non-destructiveness and object
orientation to a video editing program for the first
time.
