2. Case Incident
You are the security officer of the OMSC Sablayan campus. One
afternoon, while at your posts, you heard multiple gunshots coming
from the ground floor of the main building, followed by students
fleeing away from the site, shouting and crying. When you arrived at
the location, you found a male student holding a gun and firing
indiscriminately. He then ran inside a classroom and held all the
students as his hostage.
3. As a security officer, how will
you respond to the incident ?
4. Important Consideration
•Remain calm and professional: It is crucial
to remain calm and professional throughout
the situation. Panic and impulsive actions
could escalate the situation and endanger lives.
5. •Be prepared for the worst: I would be
prepared for a possible intervention by law
enforcement and be aware of the potential
risks involved.
6. •Prioritize the safety of everyone involved:
My top priority would be the safety of the
students, staff, and the gunman himself,
because his also a student.
7. Immediate Actions:
1. Secure the Area - I would immediately call for
backup and cordon off the area around the
classroom where the hostage situation is occurring.
This prevents anyone else from entering the danger
zone and ensures the safety of those outside.
8. 2. Evacuate Students: I would direct any
students who are not already evacuated to a
safe location away from the building. This
includes assisting any students who may be
injured or require help getting to safety.
9. 3. Contact Authorities: I would immediately
contact the local police department and report
the incident, providing them with the location,
the number of hostages, and any details about
the suspect.
10. 4. Establish Communication: If possible, I
would try to establish communication with the
hostage-taker. My goal would be to de-escalate
the situation and gain information about his
demands.
11. Negotiation and Response:
1. Negotiation Team: I would work closely
with the police negotiation team. They are
trained professionals who have experience in
dealing with hostage situations.
12. 2. Safety First: My primary concern would
be the safety of the hostages. I would
avoid any actions that could put them in
danger.
13. 3. Non-Confrontational Approach: I would
maintain a calm and non-confrontational
approach throughout the situation. My goal
would be to build rapport and trust with the
hostage-taker.
14. 4. Understanding the Motivations: I
would try to understand the hostage-
taker’s motivations and any grievances
he may have. This could help in finding
a solution
15. 5. Prioritize the safety of hostages: after
finding a solution to talk and settle the things
with hostage maker peacefully, and ask him to
leave the room. After the gun man leave the
room, make sure that all the hostages had been
also leave the room, and bring them in the safe
place.
16. After we saved all the hostages and bring
them in the safe place, trust everything to
authority cause they know more about on
how to settle this kind of situation.
17. After the incident has been settled
1. Review and Improve Security: After the
incident, a thorough review of campus security
protocols would be conducted. This would include
assessing the effectiveness of existing security
measures and identifying areas for improvement.
18. 2. Mental Health Support: I would ensure
that mental health support is available for
students, faculty, and staff who have been
affected by the incident.
19. 3. Community Outreach: I would work
with the campus community to address any
underlying issues that may have
contributed to the incident.
