Editor's Notes

  • #5: smoking implements include pipes, cigars, bidis, hookahsand bongs
  • #6: - Smoking Parents, siblings, or friends:children may start smoking as they have grown up in an environment where their parents, grandparents, older siblings and friends smoke, and so they smoke in order to look and act like them. - Manage stress or nerves:The habit of cigarette smoking is often used to tranquilize emotional issues like anxiety, stress, or low self-esteem. In addition, smoking provides comfort to people with conditions of chronic pain and depression. Smokers with emotional stress or chronic pain often turn to smoking as an attempt to treat their pain. For instance, they may use it to reduce anxiety, provide a sense of calmness and energy, and elevate their mood. - Manage low self-esteem:Some children may also begin to smoke if they have low self-esteem. Smoking may get them in with the "in crowd" and help them to make friends. If they smoke, then they will be accepted by their peers. - get attention:Some teenagers may take up smoking because their favourite film star or pop star smokes. They may think that if they smoke just like their favorite idol does, then they will appear more glamorous, attractive or sexy, like them. -Keeps weight down:Many people smoke because they think smoking will help them from gaining weight.
