Why is PDHPE important?
Students gain knowledge about their overall physical
and emotional development, and understand how to
lead a healthy lifestyle. The unit encourages students
to engage in regular physical activity, by playing
sporting games, understand the importance of
eating healthy, by incorporating this into theory such
as creating a food pyramid and watching videos
about nutrition.
What are the benefits of
PDHPE?
There are many benefits, social, emotional, cognitive and
physical. Studies have shown that students who
participate in regular physical activity are more likely to
achieve better academically than those who do not.
Additionally, these same students are usually more social,
and have positive attitudes towards others, themselves
and their futures. As a result, students are better able to
manage their own body weight, and make the right
choices. Students are more capable of making informed
decisions about leading a healthy lifestyle, which is more
than likely to become a life long option.
What is the aim of PDHPE?
The aim is to build and develop positive attitudes,
self confidence and movement skills that students
can adopt as a lifestyle. Through education students
gain knowledge, understanding, skills, values and
attitudes which will lead to a healthy lifestyle. By
participating in regular physical activity, keeping safe,
and adopting a healthy eating habit, students most
likely will become lifelong participants of a healthy
lifestyle.
How can parents help?
Parents can contribute significantly in developing
students knowledge and overall health, by being
positive role models. Parents who adopt a healthy
lifestyle themselves are more than likely to
encourage their children to do the same, as well as
being someone who can model this lifestyle and
make a positive change for their children.
