I N D U S T R Y
• Heat is a UK entertainment magazine . Its mix of
celebrity news, gossip, beauty advice and fashion is
primarily aimed at women, although not as directly as
in other women's magazines. It also features movie
and music reviews, TV listings and major celebrity
interviews.
• Heat was launched in February 1999
• Editor Thomas Fangar,Mark Frith and Lucie Cave, it’s
a weekly magazine published by Bauer Media Group
"We're here to bring you the latest celeb news straight to
your phone, fancy tablet or even computer if you're
reading at work (we won't tell anyone but - be warned -
some of our stories are very much NSFW, although we'll
always tell you when)...We also like to discuss Love
Island. In-depth. 365 days a year. You do too? We're
going to get on so well."

Coverlines- The magazine is
mainly aimed at mainstreamers and
aspirers so the fact that it talks
about the contents of "Lisa's £3.8M
Mansion" shows how the audience
wants to gain knowledge about the
celebs life and what they hope to
have.
Coverlines- They address Victoria
and David informally, inferring that
they're friends in some way which
the reader may view as a way of
reinforcing the magazines credibility
making their information appear
more factual, the "secret getaway"
can be viewed from an oppositional
perspective (Stuart Hall) because if
it’s a secret it shouldn’t be reported
but the preferred reading would be
where and how they managed to do
so, just so they can implement this in
their lives.
Dateline
Barcode
Puff- The puff sounds
like a threat " Watch Out
Becky" which entices the
reader more and wants
to read more about why
this was said or what
context this may be
referring to.
The Masthead- Its hidden
behind (but still seen clearly)
behind all the news which could
mimic the heat you'd feel from
being clustered or a form of
enigma reflecting the audience's
surveillance nature they like
reading about others' lives as
a form of identification and
entertainment. The White font
implies purity which could
reinforce their credibility since
the Katie Price Scandal. The font
Clarendon (slab-serif) is usually
connoted as being plain and
sturdy which juxtaposes its
messy house style but sturdy
information.
Anchorage Text- The anchorage text
reinforces the image and further
elaborates what she's defending
Strapline- The quote from
the magazine "I am not a
liar" reflects what going on
outside the magazine with
the Megan Markle
interview with Oprah
Winfrey. It makes the
demographic want to read
more about what she has
to say on the accusations.
Main Image- The image of
Meghan looks "unflattering" only
because it isn't airbrushed and
shows her real-life expression-
paparazzi shot.It makes her look
relatable and natural. It’s a close
up so her facial expression is
clearly shown underneath the
natural lighting. The polysemic
inference of this is that she can
appear as though she's in shock,
her expression looking as though
she believes this is all a joke and
she can't believe what's being said
about her or it could seem as
though she's trying to prover her
innocence but can't take her lie
seriously. Could be a reference to
her appearance on suits- a law-
based show which is about proving
people's innocence and the
opposing guilty. The smaller image
of Harry makes it appear as
though Meghan's in control
Colour Palette- The
colour palette consists of
colours like white, pink
and yellow. The yellow
typography attracts the
reader as it's in your
face- an alert as well as
connoting betrayal I.e. "I
am not a liar" , the pink
could represent its high
female audience and or
to categorize it as
celebrity insight "Posh
and Becks Secret
Getaway". The white just
ties it in making it appear
cleaner.

WEBSITE
 The name of the magazine is their which shows
brand identity and shows how important it is to
them to reinforce their credibility and status as they
can get insight on these celebrities' lives.
 The hyperlinks helps the audience navigate quickly
to sections they want to read further on "celebrity",
"hair & beauty", "entertainment" etc.
 Once you scroll down there are subcategories
giving an insight as to what the demographic will
read in the section.
 The language used adheres to the uses and
gratification as the audience may identify with the
celebrities' situations I.e., your parents not liking
the boy you like makes them appear relatable even
if it's not physically more so mentally.
 The promotion of their heat radio ( the play button
at the bottom of the screen) shows how they're
expanding their brand name and income. But also
want to show what they'd expect if they were to
listen to it daily.
