Primary Distribution
For many years if you wanted to see a movie then you
would have to go to cinemas and watch it there but as
time progresses so do the methods of how films can
be accessed. When the descent was released in the
year 2005 6th of July at the dead by dawn horror film
and it was a premiere. Then the initial release was 8th
July 2005. On the opening weekend what it had made
was 570,850 pounds and that was limited release. On
the cumulative worldwide gross were $31,005,153
and they done this on a budget of 3.5m pounds. If we
compare this to Avengers what we can see is that it
had a budget of $220m on the opening weekend it
had made $207,438,708m and that was wide release
but on the cumulative worldwide gross it had made
$1,519,557,910b.
The reason why the Descent works in the cinema is
because of the tone it sets and the reason for this is
because when it’s in the cinema then there is
darkness all around you and its pointing towards one
screen and the machinery/equipment in the cinemas
is very good and the reason why it works is because
there are no distractions in cinemas talking is not
allowed and mobile phones use are not permitted in
the halls. The quality that this provides is the quality
that you would find in any cinema hall across the
country.
Secondary distribution
This would be the second best quality and that would
mean it would be on DVD/Blu-Ray. So in cinemas you
would have to pay roughly 9 pounds for a ticket and
once you have seen it then that’s it you have to buy
another ticket if you wanted to watch it again where
as if you bought it on DVD for say roughly 10-11
pound or where as on Blu-Ray it can cost around 15-
17 pounds but then that DVD is yours forever or until
it no longer works but the quality wont be as good as
Blu-Ray’s which wont be near the perfection of the
cinemas.
If you are a member already of certain cinemas then
you can get a discounted price and pay that instead of
the full price where as the DVD/Blu-Ray you can get it
as part of a special collection for 12.99 or you can buy
it when it reaches half price or when its on sale for a
festive holiday e.g. Christmas, Easter, Eid etc. This
may be presented to you in most corner shops or
newsagents but ultimately they will be placed in big
stores such as Asda, Sainsbury, or Tesco’s. The only
problem is that if you want to own it on DVD and it’s
just been released in cinemas the there will be a wait
of 6 months
You can also find it on various online sites such as
Netflix, which if you pay a monthly fee of say of 6
pounds you can have almost any movie at your
disposal but if the movie has just been released in
cinema then it may take about 9 months for it to be
appear on the sites but some sites or stores take
longer like sky movies it would take 9/12 months,
where as for it to air on TV it would take more than a
year. Its even worse when it comes to piracy because
the quality could be worse or it could be a knockoff
version of the movie, but back when this was first
released there wasn’t much worry about piracy and it
because back the internet and all these sites were just
being discovered and there wasn’t much back then
mostly it was but the piracy sites could be torrents or
pirate bay but back then it was mostly sold by people
in vans. It would also not wok back then because the
internet was slow.
