Six components of design are discussed: line, color, form and shape, space, texture, and value. Different line types including vertical, horizontal, diagonal and curved lines are described. Color is explained to have immediate effects and different warm and cool colors are noted. Form refers to 3D shape while shape is 2D. Space incorporates open, cramped, unused and good use of space. Texture examines smooth and rough surfaces. Value looks at lightness and darkness of colors. Seven principles of design - balance, rhythm, emphasis, proportion/scale, movement, contrast and unity - are outlined.
