PROBABILITY OF
SIMPLE EVENTS
Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students are
expected to:
Define probability of simple events
Solves probability of simple events
Appreciate the importance of the lesson
by citing real life examples.
INSTRUCTION:
Identify whether the following situations are
sure to happen, impossible to happen
and may or may not happen
1. Tomorrow is Friday
2. A father is younger than his son
3. A mother having two children
4. A thunder and lightning are only
during a sunny day
INSTRUCTION:
5. Students will pass the exam
6. Winning in a lotto
7. A human can fly
8. The sun rises at east
9. There is a snow in the
Philippines
10. A human cannot live without
food and water for a decade.
PROBABILITY
What comes in your mind?
-it tells how likely an
event to happen
Probability
Rule #1:
The probability of any event
is a number ranging from
zero to one ( either a fraction
or decimal) or in percentage
Probability Rules:
0 ½ 1
0% 50% 100%
Rule #2:
If an event will never
happen, then its probability
is zero
Probability Rules:
Rule #3:
If an event is sure to
happen, then its probability
is 1
Probability Rules:
Rule #4:
The sum of probabilities of
all outcomes in a sample
space is 1
Probability Rules:
Formula:
example:
In tossing a coin, what is the
probability of getting a head?
example:
In rolling a die, what is the
probability of getting 2?
example:
In the word ASSURANCE,
what is the probability of
getting A?
example:
In the numbers 1 to 10,
what is the probability of
getting a number less than
3?
Activity Time
Quiz
Instruction: Solve for the
probability of the following
events. Reduce your answer
in its lowest term if possible
1. A box contains 7 red balls, 5
orange balls and 3 blue balls, what
is the probability of getting
a. Orange balls?
b. Yellow balls?
c. Red balls?
d. Green balls?
Given the number 09474569505,
what is the probability of getting,
a. 4?
b. 6?
c. 9?
d. 2?
In the word TRUSTWORTHY,
what is the probability of getting,
a. T?
b. R?
c. A?
d. B?
Assignment:
Instruction: Solve for the
probability of the following
events. Reduce your answer
in its lowest term if possible
1. Pia was asked to choose a
random in a week. What is the
probability of choosing a day that
starts with S?
2. In the numbers 1 to 10, what is
the probability of getting a factor of
8?
