Problem-based learning involves group work to develop problem solving and soft skills. Effective groups have members who play distinct roles, including a scribe to record discussions, a tutor to ensure participation and progress towards objectives, and a chair to lead the process and keep the group on task. Dysfunctional groups can occur when one member dominates discussion, preventing others from contributing.
