This document summarizes a study on improving productivity in the bottleneck machine of an automated cylinder block production line. The study found that the high pressure washer machine, which cleans cylinder blocks, was the main bottleneck. Data collected over 6 months showed its breakdowns accounted for most lost productivity. Further analysis identified issues in the washer's washing, vacuum, and cooling stations. Modifications to the washing station fixture, like adding a separating plate, significantly reduced breakdowns and improved productivity after implementation. The redesigned fixture helped address the main problem of dowel pins getting stuck during cleaning.
