What is a Plane?
 In mathematics. a plane is a flat, two-dimensional surface.
 It can also defined as an abstract surface which has infinite width
and length, zero thickness, and zero curvature.
Prof. Yash Parikh
4
Introduction
 A Plane is a two dimensional entity having only length and
breadth with negligible thickness (which is considered as
zero).
Prof. Yash Parikh
5
Shapes of Planes

6
Types of Planes
 Planes may be divided as two main types.
 They are :
(I) Perpendicular Planes
(II) Oblique Planes.
(I) Perpendicular Planes :
 Planes which are perpendicular to any one of the principal
planes of projection are called as perpendicular planes.
 These planes may be inclined or parallel to the other
principal plane.
Prof. Yash Parikh
7
Types of Planes
(II) Oblique Plane :
 Here Planes are inclined to both the reference planes.
 Projections of such planes are drawn in three stages.
Prof. Yash Parikh
8
Various Positions of Perpendicular Planes
(a) Plane is Perpendicular to V.P. & Parallel to H.P.
Prof. Yash Parikh
9
Various Positions of Perpendicular Planes
(b) Plane is Perpendicular to H.P. & Parallel to V.P.

10
Various Positions of Perpendicular Planes
(c) Plane is Perpendicular to both H.P. & V.P.
