My professional network is underdeveloped. Reasons Time Money  Opportunity
Myself (and anyone else who needs to  build their professional network).
As a person entering the field of HR I want to develop my career and seek advancement and job opportunities and one of the best ways to do that is through one’s professional network. Developing a professional network is beneficial in my job search, career and life.
Expand network by… On-line social networking LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook Professional social networking NCHRA events, Young Area Professionals events, Company/Industry info sessions Other – socializing  Volunteering, classes, friends, family
Won’t join any HR prof. org.s that cost more than $150 per year until I get a job. Won’t go to networking events that are outside the Bay Area until I have a job.
Increasing the number of professional contacts. Increasing the number of contacts that give me job leads, recommendations and other useful information to help advance my career.

  • #2: Discuss socializing vs networking somewhere in presentation.
  • #3: The reason my network is underdeveloped is because I only decided I was interested in HR last year. - Time – I was busy taking classes to finish my degree. – - Money – I did not have $ attend events or join organizations that would help with my networking. - Opportunity – didn’t have adequate transportation or knowledge of events.
  • #4: This how-to guide can be used by anyone that needs to develop their professional network for whatever reason
  • #5: When it comes to job searching, the truth is, about 75 percent of people find their next position through their network. http://ow.ly/g2Pl Many jobs are not posted/advertised because employers hire internally or go through their employee referral program first before they look externally. This method is cheaper for them but makes it harder on job hunters. Building your network is not only about finding jobs, it is about learning from others in your field and keeping current in it.
