Project 4 Overview

For the final project I have decided to do something fun relating
to a favorite pastime of mine. I will create a website using Flash,
and the theme of the site will be about reading and books. The
main purpose of the site will be to review and recommend
books I have read. One section will be a “book of the month”
audio podcast book review, another section will show previews
of movies based on books (one currently in theaters and one
available in stores), and the last section will provide resources on
where to find and download audiobooks (including ones being
reviewed in this website). This last section is also aimed at
providing an accessible option for those with vision impairments
   to have access to books.

Content Information and Additional Notes:
This page will have a monthly book review (in audio form) of a book I’ve read and am recommending to website
viewers. The title of the page and a brief intro of what will be included in the page will appear on top. The title of
the book being reviewed will follow, and below this will be an image of the book cover and an audio podcast
review of the book I will create using Audacity (see Project 4 Storyboard Page 3). Below the audio review will be a
link where visitors can click on to buy the book and a link to past audio book reviews (possibly to a PodOmatic
page hosting the past episodes). At the very bottom will be my flash initials logo and page copyright information.

Hello book lovers! For this month’s review, we will be looking at the first book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians
series by Rick Riordan: The Lightening Thief. The series is listed for young adults, but having read the entire 5 book set I can
say that this is a story that anyone would enjoy reading no matter their age.

The first out of a series of 5 books, the Lightening Thief begins the tale of Percy Jackson with the discovery of his heritage
as the half-blood son of the Greek god Poseidon, and his role in a prophecy that foretells the fate of the gods, one which
depends on the actions that Percy will take upon his 16th birthday…providing of course that he can survive until then!

The story brings the classic tales in Greek mythology to the modern world, where the gods and all the creatures from the
tales live hidden among us. Children like Percy who are half-human and half-god are known as half-bloods, and during
the summer they each attend “Camp Half-Blood,” where they learn to control their powers in the hope of becoming a
hero like those in the old Greek mythology tales.

The author, Rick Riordan, does a fantastic job of creating this world hidden within our own world, as well as the characters
introduced throughout the story. And his portrayal of the Greek gods in the modern world and their antics is a riot at
times! Imagine Ares the god of war riding around the world in his own motorcycle gang, or finding Medusa running a
garden gnome emporium store off the side of a road in New Jersey? And who knew that Mount Olympus today is
actually located at the top of the Empire State Building in New York City? (Providing you have the key to the 600th floor
  that is!)

But I would definitely recommend adding not only this book, but the entire Percy Jackson series to your reading list, you
won’t regret it! And don’t forget to check out our movie preview review next month, where we’ll be reviewing the
Lightening Thief, being released in theaters on February 12th 2010.

Remember if you have a favorite book, send us the title and we’ll be glad to feature it during our monthly reviews. Until
  then, enjoy your reading time!

Additional Notes:
The podcast will be recorded using a microphone headset and Audacity. A short interview with another person who has
read the book may also be included as part of the podcast.

Project 4 Storyboard

  • 1. Project 4 Storyboard Elisabeth Gabriel Multimedia Design Fall 2009
  • 2. a Project 4 Overview For the final project I have decided to do something fun relating to a favorite pastime of mine. I will create a website using Flash, and the theme of the site will be about reading and books. The main purpose of the site will be to review and recommend books I have read. One section will be a “book of the month” audio podcast book review, another section will show previews of movies based on books (one currently in theaters and one available in stores), and the last section will provide resources on where to find and download audiobooks (including ones being reviewed in this website). This last section is also aimed at providing an accessible option for those with vision impairments to have access to books.
  • 3. a Project Resources   Flash CS3 For website creation   Audacity & Microphone Headset For audio podcast recording   Digital Camera For book photographs   Photoshop CS3 For image creation and photo editing   iMovie Movie preview clip editing
  • 4. SkillsaCovered   Flash I will use many of the book and web resources covered throughout the course to create the website in Flash.   Audio From skills learned in the sound editing activity and project 3, I will be able to create an audio podcast mp3 clip for the book review.   Video From skills learned in project 2, 2b and project 3, I will be able to add two interactive video clips to my site.   Images I will be using Photoshop to edit images and photos and Flash to create images that will be used in the site.

Content Information and Additional Notes: This page will have a monthly book review (in audio form) of a book I’ve read and am recommending to website viewers. The title of the page and a brief intro of what will be included in the page will appear on top. The title of the book being reviewed will follow, and below this will be an image of the book cover and an audio podcast review of the book I will create using Audacity (see Project 4 Storyboard Page 3). Below the audio review will be a link where visitors can click on to buy the book and a link to past audio book reviews (possibly to a PodOmatic page hosting the past episodes). At the very bottom will be my flash initials logo and page copyright information. Page title has not been finalized.
  • 7. Project 4 Storyboard Page 3 From Frame 2: Audio Podcast Book Review (text may differ in final version) Hello book lovers! For this month’s review, we will be looking at the first book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan: The Lightening Thief. The series is listed for young adults, but having read the entire 5 book set I can say that this is a story that anyone would enjoy reading no matter their age. The first out of a series of 5 books, the Lightening Thief begins the tale of Percy Jackson with the discovery of his heritage as the half-blood son of the Greek god Poseidon, and his role in a prophecy that foretells the fate of the gods, one which depends on the actions that Percy will take upon his 16th birthday…providing of course that he can survive until then! The story brings the classic tales in Greek mythology to the modern world, where the gods and all the creatures from the tales live hidden among us. Children like Percy who are half-human and half-god are known as half-bloods, and during the summer they each attend “Camp Half-Blood,” where they learn to control their powers in the hope of becoming a hero like those in the old Greek mythology tales. The author, Rick Riordan, does a fantastic job of creating this world hidden within our own world, as well as the characters introduced throughout the story. And his portrayal of the Greek gods in the modern world and their antics is a riot at times! Imagine Ares the god of war riding around the world in his own motorcycle gang, or finding Medusa running a garden gnome emporium store off the side of a road in New Jersey? And who knew that Mount Olympus today is actually located at the top of the Empire State Building in New York City? (Providing you have the key to the 600th floor that is!) But I would definitely recommend adding not only this book, but the entire Percy Jackson series to your reading list, you won’t regret it! And don’t forget to check out our movie preview review next month, where we’ll be reviewing the Lightening Thief, being released in theaters on February 12th 2010. Remember if you have a favorite book, send us the title and we’ll be glad to feature it during our monthly reviews. Until then, enjoy your reading time! Additional Notes: The podcast will be recorded using a microphone headset and Audacity. A short interview with another person who has read the book may also be included as part of the podcast. A link to the amazon.com page for the book will be included below the audio review: http://www.amazon.com/ Lightning-Thief-Percy-Jackson-Olympians/dp/0786838655/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1255380463&sr=8-4 Podcast name has not been finalized.
