Resourcefulness and active participation. Situation/ Rationale An earthquake is a sudden, rapid shaking of the ground caused by the breaking and shifting of rock beneath the Earth's surface. This shaking can cause damage to buildings and bridges; disrupt gas, electric, and phone service; and sometimes trigger landslides, flash floods, fires, and huge, destructive ocean waves (tsunamis). Buildings with foundations resting on unconsolidated landfill, old waterways, or other unstable soil are most at risk even the lives of people are at danger. Disaster education aims to provide knowledge among individuals and groups to take actions to reduce their vulnerability to disasters. Based on some evidence, it is important for vulnerable people to learn about disasters. There are different methods to educate vulnerable people, but no method is better than others. Disasters often follow natural hazards. Damages caused by natural hazards like earthquakes, floods and droughts can have great impact to vulnerable people and properties. In support to this, Catmon Elementary School is making significant contribution, educating their pupils to minimize their risk of danger. Project Title PROJECT MAY ALAM KA , Catmon Organized Valuable Earthquake Resilience Education) PROJECT OBJECTIVE/S: 1. The objective of the project is to provide knowledge and information necessary for pupils to follow in case any of these natural hazards occur 2. To educate 90% of the learners, parents, teaching and non teaching personnel on preparedness toward earthquake hazard and mitigate risk through training and advocacy materials 3. To gain 90% participation from teachers, learners and parents during earthquake drill. Output/s 1. Quarterly narrative and pictorial report of drills and update on the flow of the project during and after the implementation. 2. Seminar / workshop, Symposium, Trainings Expected outcomes of the application project It is expected that the outcomes of this project 1.To provide basic conceptual understanding of disasters and its relationships with development. 2. To gain understand approaches of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and the relationship between vulnerability, disasters, disaster prevention and risk reduction. Being prepared can reduce fear, anxiety, and losses that accompany disasters. Parents in the community can also be educated and reduce the impact of disasters (flood proofing, elevating a home or moving sometimes avoid the danger completely. B.
