FEA AND HAND CALCULATION OF WERT, PLP,
PARKING FRAME AND BANANA PLATE
Strength analysis performed for various units, each with own
purposes
FMC Technologies awarded Rambøll to
perform strength analysis of various units,
such as WERT, Pig Loop Porch, Parking
frame, Banana plate according to relevant
standards.
WERT:
It is used for various configurations with
different lengths and weights. Typical unit
are Pig loop Porch (PLP), Triple Porch and
Hogs configuration units.
Evaluation of lifting for WERT with PLP
structure was conducted for this particular
unit, acc. to DNV 2.22 Lifting appliances.
PLP:
The scope of work for PLP structure was
to analyze when subject to force during
lifting, impact loading, landing during
installation and stability against tipping in
accordance with DNV 2.7-3 operational
class R60 to achieve the requirement
from NORSOK R002, which is the strictest
criterion.
Parking Frame:
Parking frame are used for lifting/handling
and transportation of WERT unit. There
was six analysis considered and
developed to understand the structural
integrity of the unit. They are identified as
follows:
 Evaluation of lifting
 Resistance of impact loading
 Transportation analysis sea fastening
 Forklift analysis of Parking Frame
 Stability against tipping
 Drop test analysis (Explicit Dynamic
Analysis)
Banana Plate:
The Banana Plate has been designed by
FMC Technology. The structure is a lifting
device used for adjustment
adjustment of sling used for the
lifting of WERT and various
configurations as Pig Loop Porch,
Triple Porch and Hogs. The analysis
performed for the banana plate
consider the strength capacity of
when subject connected between
two slings

FE Analysis with strength calculation in
Mathcad.
