How To Criminalize Money Laundering
Congress crafted a broad statute designed to criminalize the actions of anyone who knowingly
participated in an illicit transaction, regardless of its magnitude or dollar value. Although the current
money laundering statute is broad and general, there is widespread agreement that it does not
criminalize the mere act of spending money generated by the illegal criminal activity. This helps hold
the accountability for individuals engaged in criminal activity. Spending money by making a purchase
or entering into a transaction is not necessarily a crime, even if the party spending the illegally gained
money knows that the money came from illegal activities. Rather, in order to run afoul of the law,
there must be direct or circumstantial evidence

Descriptive Essay About My Birthday Day
January 13, 2012 is the day when tears ran down my cheeks and feeling the wind rush against my
drenched skin, hoping it would drown the sorrows along with the cruise. That day, I felt the pain stab
through my heart as I stood on the island and wished they would come back to me. Looking all around
and seeing joy, regret, and distraught looks on everyone. The coast guards grabbing me and directing
all of us away. Glancing over my shoulder to look at the wreckage one last time, only to close them
quickly after seeing the golden bracelet floating in the water again.
At 9:39 pm. I walked into my friend s cabin and glanced around surprised. The room was covered
with blue and purple balloons, and streamers. Directly on the wall was a banner ... Show more content

My friend grabs my hand so tight I thought it might break. I thought to myself we are going to survive
this together as water started filling up the ship. Squeezing her hand just as tight as we both push with
everything we had in us to get out of the halls. Fifteen minutes later we are on the outside of the ship
as it continues to tilt. We see the deck is covered with water up to our ankles and the employees are
calling for women and children first. Pulling my best friend along trying to push through to get to the
lifeboats.
As we arrived to one of the last lifeboats, we hear loud sobbing behind us. I turn around and see a
mother attempting to comfort her young sobbing daughter by rubbing and hugging her. My best friend
and I looked at each other and nodded to each other, instantly understanding each as fast as lightning
strikes. We both step aside and let them take the last two seats on the lifeboat. We stand there watching
the lifeboat get lowered into the sea, the water splashing into my mouth getting it all salty. We quickly
run around looking for any lifeboats. We see one unoccupied and we sprint like our lives on the line.
Right before we got to it, The Italian Captain pushes the lifeboat in the water and jumps in. We get to
the rail and stare down and see the captain not even sparing us a glance as he got to safety to the island
nearby. My friend looked at me with

The Stresses that Come with Being a Nurse
Multiple studies over the past twenty plus years have looked at factors affecting the nurse s workday
and the effects it has on them. When an individual first enters a chosen career, he or she is driven. If
the work environment is not encouraging of the individual s efforts and concerns, the reality of the job
and the individual s prospects begin to deviate and frustration and disappointment happens. (Kerri,
2014) These feelings can bring about job displeasure, resulting in decreased efficiency, loss of
confidence and concentration, and behavior changes. If these circumstances are not addressed, stress
accumulates and causes typical stress related symptoms. The definite stressors within the work
environment that lead to stress and burnout can be different among occupations and between
individuals within an occupation. The starting place of burnout is in the work environment, but
because not every individuals working in a certain environment will experience burnout, personal risk
factors must have a role in putting the individual at risk for burnout. Therefore, personality is another
important factor to be considered.
Jennings (2010) found that: Neuroticism has been associated with exhaustion. External locus of
control has demonstrated a positive relationship with burnout and stress. Findings are mixed for
hardiness. Evaluations of anxiety reflect a link with stress and burnout. Anxiety is viewed as having
two components state anxiety, the temporary component which manifests

The Russian Mafia Essay
The Russian Mafia
The Russian Mafia: Protectionism in the New Capitalist Russia The Russian Mafia has always
exercised an important role in the Russian economy. The contemporary mafiosi are descendents of the
seventeenth Century highwaymen and Cossack robbers. These men occasionally murdered families
prior to raids preventing them from being captured. The Russia mafiosi made a point to remain aloof
from the state. Mob men were actually spurned when returning home from fighting in the Great
Patriotic War. The gangs begin to dominate markets such as car sales, spare parts, cigarettes, food
distribution, and other markets that the Communist Party failed to provide under the Bolsheviks
(Remnick196). Since the collapse of Communism and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most entrepreneurs purchase the protection. Then the new company pays unofficial taxes to crime
groups. This guarantees that nearly all new businesses will have an affiliation with the mafia.
Gustatson estimates that payments can are approximately twenty percent of the profit (105). This is a
major form of taxation on top of what the government already commands leading many companies to
tax evasion or concealing their exact value. These acts forfeit what little protection the authorities
might be able to render. The mafia demands a cut of the earnings but in turn furnish more than
adequate security. The mafiosi provides protection from unaffiliated criminals and rival gangs. They
ensure that property is not damaged or stolen. If entrepreneurs are visited by another organization,
they must only summon their own mafia group. The two gangs will settle the matter themselves
(Gustatson 105). This security is an asset that the State seemingly fails to provide. The Russian Mafia
has more men and weapons than the Russian law enforcement. The police force is an intently corrupt
place as is much of the Russian government. Both army officers and law enforcers are frantic for cash
and willing to sell weapons such as guns, grenades, and rocket launchers (Remnick 109). The Russian

was confused about topic or an assignment. A majority of the time class discussions cleared up a lot of
things for me but if I was ever still confused, the textbook was a great resource to use as well. In this

Cell Phones And Its Effect On Children Essay
Teenagers are constantly on their cell phone, which leads to extreme overuse of it. In an
acknowledgeable book, Ling (2004) described how teenagers use cell phones and the direct effects of
having one. Adolescence is a period in someone s life in which they develop their own identity and
self esteem. So, teenagers are at a very influential time in their life and cell phones take advantage of
that. When a teen decides to use a cell phone, they are not acting with their own ideas, but rather the
culture of their peers. Mobile phones play a role in the teen s peer group. Since a teen is still
developing their own identity and sense of self esteem, they fall into the vicious cycle of only doing
what other teens are. Like a lot of technology, cell phones have not been around that long. So, no
generation of teenagers have really been able to access this kind of technology before. Since it is a
newer technology, teens and parents are still making up the rules as they go. As a result, teenagers
easily over use their cell phone without even realizing it. When no clear boundaries are set, teenagers
take advantage of that, and use the device as much as possible. Some teenagers objectify the cell
phone and incorporate it into their daily lives, but their parents are still way back in the adoption
process. Mobile phones are the way that teens inside a peer group communicate now, using it as a
main form of communication makes it easier to overuse the cell phone. In a well conducted

allowing individual investors to manage their assets and making transactions free from high costs and

Analysing Talk to Chuck ads
The first thing to notice about the Talk to Chuck advertisement was the medium ¡V animation. The ads
were not exactly cartoons ¡V they were shot on film and then coloured over using the Rotoscopy
technology from MIT Media Labs veteran Bob Sabiston (the same technology was used in the movie
¡§Waking Life¡¨). The animated ads succeeded in focusing people¡¦s attention to the conversations.
Somehow the removal of the real world details present in the live actor¡¦s face and retention of the
actual background set, forced consumers move past what they were seeing and shifted their attention
to the dialogue. The characters discussed about commissions, trades and plans for the future.
The second surprising choice was the new slogan, ¡§Talk to Chuck¡¨ ¡V not Charles, but Chuck. Even
though Mr. Charles Schwab was not present in the ads, the campaign was centred on him. The Schwab
campaign carried the theme ¡§Talk to Chuck¡¨ which appeared as an eye catching graphic device in
the form of a dialogue balloon as would be found in a cartoon strip. Some liked the use of the name
¡§Chuck¡¨; some loved it; some hated it; but everybody noticed it. Overall it communicated a
company that was comfortable to talk to, approachable and on your level.

The Aeschylus Trilogy And Sweat By Lynn Nottage
The Aeschylus Trilogy and Sweat by Lynn Nottage, though written thousands of years apart, actually
share the same underlying problems especially when it comes the the characters that drive the plot. In
both plays, there is this very prominent character trait found in most, if not all, the characters,
selfishness. These self centered characters actually create conflict simply by only thinking of
themselves. The self centered and selfish air in both time periods, whether brought up by individual
characters or even character groups, drives the plot in both the Aeschylus Trilogy and Sweat. The
mythical story of Agamemnon opens with an air of hope and fear as the very weary watchmen and
city of Argos wait for the fall of Troy, a war that has been going on for ten years. After the signal is
seen, Agamemnon s wife Clytemnestra, who has been ruling in his absence, appears from her home
and tells the city the great news, they have won the war. Agamemnon arrives home and has brought
the captured Trojan princess Cassandra, his concubine. Clytemnestra falsely welcomes him with gifts
that will lead him to his death. After also being welcomed, Cassandra, moves into a state of frenzy,
foreshadowing to Agamemnon s murder and her own. She enters the house, knowing it will lead to her
death. Thc cries of the dying Agamemnon are heard by many, when the palace is revealed,

The Effects Of Monopoly On Economic Development
Discuss the effects of monopoly on economic development. Is monopoly legal in your country? If so,
give three examples. If not, what are the actions of the government that have been taken to prevent
monopoly?
A Monopoly power as study showcases is when a firm has monopoly power it will engage itself a
little competition. Which also means that a monopoly is a price maker and its demand curve will be
inelastic. If Monopoly set to increase prices demand, it would only fall by a small percentage.
According to Pettinger, R. (2013), a monopoly is likely to cause the following effects in the economy
development as stated below:
i. Monopoly would increase price and decline consumer surplus, in that case, demand is will be

Monopoly will cause allocative inefficiency by introducing higher prices and less choice for
consumers. vi. A situation where monopolies get too high, they may experience what we call
diseconomies of scale. vii. Monopolies can use their monopoly power to achieve a goal by paying
lower prices to their suppliers. For examples, A Supermarkets will pay low prices to farmers since the
farmers do not have any other choice than to sell their products.
The effects of monopoly on economic development can also be seen from another aspect where we
have Price exceeding Marginal Cost, Price exceeding lowest Average Total Cost. This results to an
efficiency loss (dead weight loss) where we have sum of consumer surplus plus producer surplus is
less than maximum. It can be viewed as a private tax on consumers since the higher price will
generates higher economic profit that is distributed amongst shareholders of the company, who are
mostly from high income groups. Monopoly owner s benefit at the expense of the consumers, since
owners have more income than the consumers, monopoly increases gap between rich and poor. For
example, when a buyer is richer than owners of the monopoly, then income transfer from consumers
to owners may decrease income

Raunch Culture
The issue of sexuality in advertising has been raised in the last ten years (Brooke, 2010; Bradley,
2007; Phillips, 2005; Kent, 2005 Levy, 2005), hence the concept of raunch culture raises the question
of whether women are being empowered or victimised. This essay will discuss whether raunch culture
represents a wave of new feminism, focusing on whether women s sexuality is being celebrated in a
healthy and empowering manner or preyed upon by marketing s misogynistic and exploitating image
of the good life laid out in various media forms, from billboards to sex videos to television

Criticism of using sexuality in advertising has also noted that it promotes the objectification of women
and them in a disrespectful environment (Boddewyn, 1991). Hence, at this point when Hilton is
famous, marketers should take responsibility, as they further marketed her with an image of a bimbotic
girl (Bradely, 2007). Moreover, as Richins (1991) reports, women always make social comparisons
between the advertising models and themselves. As a result, advertising images create negative affect
and increases women s dissatisfaction with their own appearance. Since those images are edited
through the consistent usage of digital technology, these idealized images do not portray women in a
healthy manner. Indeed, these enhanced images would give these young girls the impression that they
need to be perfect , just like these fake images. According to Reist in ABC s Gruen Session (2010),
young women get the message that they need to be thin, hot and sexy just to be acceptable in this
society. Therefore, by generating the wrong perception of real beauty, the responsibility is pushed to
the marketers, as they portray women with this stereotypical body type as acceptable. In addition, as
the brand, Dove s tagline in its advertisement What happened to the real beauty ? (Reist, 2010),
marketers need not market their products in manners portraying women as airheads. Consequently,
marketers gave most consumers viewing the advertisement, the wrong impression that

The Memory System Essay example
Memories are creative recollections of past experiences that are unique to each individual. They define
us and give us our identity. Memories are a collection of information, which at one time was new to
us, and as we learned and progressed, that information became stored as memory. The main fact to
memory is that practice and repetition is a key asset to making the brain encode the information as
memory. When the brain encodes this information it is stored, waiting to be retrieved. When we
memorize something, it is stored for a certain amount of time in the brain, the more we recall this
information the more familiar we become with it, making it easier to remember and recall later in life.
The process of memory is still a mystery, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While yet it is the most complex process neuroscience has ever tried to define. Most theorists believe
that the brain encodes information in two different types, motor skills memory and factual memory.
Motor skills memory is the memorization of functions like running, walking, or eating. While factual
memory is associated with the memorization of telephone number, names, places, and experiences.
Some theorists believe this is the basic foundation to memories. Associated with these two types are
three levels, Sensory memory, Short term memory, and Long term memory. Sensory memory is the
level, which absorbs the things around us using the five main senses, sight, smell, touch, sound, and
taste. This level of memory is thought to only last a matter of seconds, and only moves on to the next
level if enough attention is given to the information. (Baddeley, 1976) If not enough attention is given
to the information it is ignored by the brain and forgotten. (Howe, 1983) The second level of memory
is the Short term memory. This level is believed to only have a capacity of 7 items, and have a
duration time of no more than thirty seconds. (Bjork, 1996) When memories in the short term are used
more and more it sends it to the next level, but again this is only done by practice or repetition. A way
for most people to remember more things, in the short term is called Chunking. This is where someone

The Pit Of Human Depravity Essays
The holocaust was a catastrophic event that killed millions of innocent people and showed the world
how inhuman mankind can be. This dark period in world history demonstrated unmatched violence
and cruelty towards the Jewish race that led toward genocide. Genocide did not begin with the
Holocaust; nor was it a spontaneous event. Many warning signs within world events helped provide
Germany and Adolf Hitler the foundation to carry out increasing levels of human depravity (Mission

This soon led to an increase of Jewish deportations to concentration camps where they would face
numerous hardships and cruelty; the majority of them were lucky if they lasted a month. The sum of
these events helps provide the foundation and road map to genocide during the holocaust. A better
understanding of the magnitude and complexity of genocide will come to light by examining these
events which served as warning signs that the world stood by and allowed to happen. Most
importantly, while many agree that genocide should never have happened to any race, by breaking
down genocide from its many elements and events, valuable knowledge and understanding will result
on how not to let it happen again.
To begin, Anti Semitism was a huge thing with an enormous impact on all of these events. Anti
Semitism was a pretty common phenomenon around the holocaust era, but it could have never been
made clearer how much dislike the Germans had for the Jews than by having the holocaust. The
holocaust was the most extreme method of showing contempt toward a person. The tragic point is that
they became convinced and determined they were doing all of Germany a favor by getting rid of the
Jews because they were just another flaw in the country; and Germans came to believe that. In his first
Anti Semitic writing of 1919, Hitler demonstrated this desire to rid Germany of the Jews, The ultimate

I banged my head against my pillow. I don t want to go run a mile! I shouted. I waited for a response,

Run a mile with your brother now! My mom shouted irritatedly.
Ugg I murmured. My mom gave me a stern look.

My brother was 13 at the time (now 14). By the look of his face, he looked angry. His motions also

Effective And Ineffective Teacher Student Relationships
The purpose of this study was to analyze the research findings on effective and ineffective teacher
student relationships and the results on student achievement and behavior. Marzano discusses the
teacher s personality not necessarily pertaining to the quality of T S relationship. The teacher should
act professionally as an advocate. Marzano claims that Rather, the most effective T S relationships are
characterized by specific teacher behaviors: exhibiting appropriate levels of dominance; exhibiting
appropriate levels of cooperation; and being aware of high needs students. Dominance does not mean
force or control but rather providing a clear purpose and strong guidance to students, both
academically and behaviorally (Marzano, 2003). Teacher student relationships are also formed as a
result of how things are run and the atmosphere of a classroom, primarily routines and expectations.
Dominance is also not referring to the teacher talking the whole time with limited or no student

Impact Of Globalisation On Higher Education
Globalisation is the evolution of society which affect human life, education is one of those, especially
in postgraduate degrees which receive the most influence from globalisation. The development in
technologies and communication have produced a shift in learning system which affect cultures and
national economic growth. Higher education systems has been transformed by globalisation, which is
the widening, deepening and speeding up of worldwide interconnectedness (Held et al., 1999, p.14).
When examining the impact of globalisation on higher education all over the world, the positive and
negative aspects of this phenomenon have been widely mentioned. Some writers argue that
globalisation has the destructive effect to the postgraduate system in developing nations and non
English speaking developed nations (Marginson, 2006). Although the downsides of globalisation to
higher education remain highly controversial, the occurrence of this phenomenon could significantly
encourage national universities and governments to develop their standard of higher education which
will benefit to students (Damme, 2001). Globalisation could increase cultural exchange and
multicultural reality as well. This article sets out to analyse critically the overview of globalisation and
how it has valuable effects to higher education in long terms.
There are a large number of definitions for Globalisation which could have different meaning for
different people. According to Knight (2001), it

This Is What It Means To Say Phoenix, Arizona By Sherman...
Bethany Furtado Professor Charbonneau Hess English 102 24 October 2017 Thomas Builds the Fire
In the story, This Is What It Means to Say Phoenix, Arizona by Sherman Alexie the two main
characters are Victor and Thomas Builds the Fire. The story is about Victor and Thomas who are
childhood best friends that went on a trip from their reservation to Phoenix, Arizona to collect Victor
father s savings account. Throughout the trip, they experience many flashbacks of when they were
friends such as when Victor stepped into a wasp nest. The character I choose to analyze is Thomas

Victor thought that Thomas might be able to help him because Victor felt a sudden need for tradition
(78). This quote means that after Victor s fathers died he wanted to feel like he belongs to the tribal
community and traditions. Thomas offers to lend Victor the money on the condition that he
accompany Victor to Phoenix, Arizona. On the trip to Phoenix, Arizona Victor and Thomas experience
many flashbacks of when they were younger. One of the flashbacks happens on Fourth of July when
Thomas proves his Native American culture by questioning why they celebrate Fourth of July if it is
not about their own independence. It s strange how us Indians celebrate the Fourth of July. It ain t like
it was our independence everyone was so fighting for (79). This quote means why bother celebrating
if the Indians aren t apart of the U.S. Thomas Builds the Fire values his Native American culture by
being a spiritual person. He has prophetic vision and dreams of the future. Thomas Builds the Fire

Dante And Virgil s Punishment In Dantes Inferno
In Dante Alighieri s Inferno, Dante the pilgrim and Virgil, his guide, venture through each layer of hell
where they encounter different sinners. In the second circle of hell, they see an eternal whirlwind
tormenting the lustful sinners (Inf. 5. 31 33). It is here that Dante and Virgil encounter the star crossed
lovers, Francesca and Paolo (Inf. 5. 82 85). Dante learns that Francesca was forced into marriage but
fell in love with her brother in law, Paolo. One day, Francesca and Paolo became moved by the story
of Guinevere and Lancelot and shared a fatal kiss. Their desire for one other condemned them to hell
(Inf. 5. 124 135). Upon hearing their tragic story, Dante becomes overwhelmed and faints (Inf. 5. 139

Francesca s character is composed of the punishment she suffers and the story of her downfall. The
description of the whirlwinds and suffering that she must endure for eternity sets the sympathetic
mood for Dante and Virgil s encounter with Francesca. When Francesca speaks to Dante, the poetic
words and references to love she uses creates an overwhelming effect of sympathy. She is shown to be
a victim of love rather than lust. Dante s reaction to Francesca when he faints completes the
sympathetic effect. All these components converge and create the message that lust is easily mistaken
for love. Dante Alighieri utilizes this situation to present mankind s difficulty to understand lust from
love. Much like Francesca, mankind is driven by inner passions, becoming incapable of seeing the
reality of lust from love. Ultimately, Francesca reflects the difficulty of differing lust from love in

Indian Ocean Trade Research Paper
With the years of development of trades between Silk Roads and the Indian Ocean, both went through
some changes along with being tied to each other. For the silk roads, Roman and Egyptian Jews would
travel through the silk roads as they were the most common traders. Although for the Indian ocean
Muslim traders had dominated the sea. The world s shipping lanes was the Indian ocean during the
years 1100 1500 A.D, as Arab sailors soon were masters of the sea trade in the ocean. When northern
groups had taken over parts of silk routes, sea trades were taken as they were alternate paths. This
resulted in Chinese becoming masters of ship building and merchants creating new trade routes and a
new credit system. When the Song dynasty came, silk roads were becoming less common in use of
trade as sea trades were becoming more common as they were much cheaper and safer. Trades in the
Indian Ocean was not only becoming more common just because of the conditions, but also because

In the last few decades the daily lives of Americans is revolving around about what the entertainment
media has displayed for them. Society has been influenced by the media with movies, advertisements
and news that are constantly bombarding us. Entertainment media has given Americans a taste of the
films that display a traditional housewife woman and heroic male figures. However, today s media has
offered a new perspective on how a woman or man can act. These stereotypes have been making a
difference for woman and men by allowing them to be able to express their individuality. In many
Disney movies, gender stereotypes have been changing from the typical idea of what a woman s

The Ethical Theory Of Ethical Egoism
Ethical egoism is defined roughly by stating how people do things or react to what is in their best
interest. This theory gets its meaning because the word egoism derives from the Latin term ego ,
meaning I in English (Moseley). The motivation of ethical egoism depends on how the situation will
act upon one s self interest. In this paper, I am going to defend and explain that babies are born with
morality of the ethical egoism theory. Ethical egoism stands out from the rest of the ethical theories,
due to the fact, that it focuses on the individual and how it will benefit them and only them. People
who do not go out of their way to help others unless it benefits them are known as, ethical egoists.
People following the ethical egoism theory typically are looking out what is better for them. For
example, a person invites her friend to go to the store late at night because she is afraid to go alone
since crime is high in the area, she is thinking of her own safety first not so much her friends safety. Is
being an ethical egoist a bad morality? The answer to the question is simply, no. We in fact are born as
an ethical egoist. As babies, we are after our own self interest, not others, because we do not know any
better at such a young age. In a way we all have a part of ethical egoism in our morals since we all
start out as an ethical egoist when we are born. We are not taught to act in our own self interest it just
comes natural. When babies cry because they got a toy

Glia Function
Glia was know just to be support cells, but scientist have discovered that they serve a bigger purpose
in the function of the nervous system. Three major categories of glia are: astroglia, oligodendroglia,

Neurons contains a fluid known as extracellular fluid which also contains charged particles called
ions. (can be + or ) Ions are located in cytoplasm, which gives neurons an electrical charge when a
neuron is not sending a message, known as the resting potential ( ).
Ion channels only allow certain ions in and out of the cell and can open or close depending on input
received from other neurons. When positively charged information (excitatory) is received from other
neurons it is called the action potential, during this phase sodium is allowed through the ion ... Show

How is the Nervous System Organized?
Nervous system has two main parts: the central nervous system, which contains the brain and spinal
cord, and the peripheral nervous system, which contains the nerves throughout our body that send
input back and forth between the periphery and the central nervous system.
The peripheral nervous system is made up of two other systems known as the somatic and the
autonomic systems. The somatic nervous system controls all the nerves in our body that respond to
sensory information (touch and pain) and transmits all the information to the brain and spinal cord,
with the help of the central nervous system. The autonomic nervous system is also made up of two
parts: the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. The only thing they have in common is
that both these systems have nerve cells and axons distributed throughout the body. The sympathetic
system is active during stress, it is also responsible for the fight or flight reaction that allows us to
respond to life threatening scenarios. The parasympathetic system is active during the restful times
and it is responsible for controlling our everyday functions when we are not necessarily at

What s Wrong With Cinderella Analysis
Problems With Princesses
In Peggy Orenstein s article, What s wrong with Cinderella? she discusses the problems with
princesses. The first problem being that princess merchandise is everywhere. Orenstein writes about
when she took her daughter to the dentist and once the check up was over, her daughter got a princess
sticker. Princesses are embedded into a child s everyday life, making a princess more of a way of
living than a fantasy. To further this point, Orenstein mentions how even now, in a show that is
supposed to be about teaching other languages, Dora the Explorer, has turned into Dora finding a fairy
tale land where she becomes a princess at the end of her two part movie. This is only the beginning of
the issues that are brought to attention in this article.
She mentions how all girls are exposed to princesses, no matter where they go. Orenstein expresses
her concern as a parent and how princesses could be damaging to the mental and emotional ... Show

making this something that little girls pay attention to. However, when [princess culture] is so

Comparing Aristotle And David Hume
There are two significant empiricists I m going to focus on, Aristotle and David Hume. Specifically,
the focus is on their ethics: what those ethics are, how they differ from each other, and which is
superior. Superiority will be determined by the philosophy s usefulness whether the epitome of a
philosophy s virtue is attainable by man; and how conducive the philosophy is to human happiness. In
both of these respects, Aristotle is superior to Hume. To Aristotle, ethics is not an exact science, it s
ruled by broad generalizations that work most of the time and are found with those of experience, the
men of practical wisdom (Nicomachean Ethics, 1094b15 1095a10). We don t need a focused study in
the sciences to understand the good, all one needs is a proper understanding of how the external
aspects of life: friendship, pleasure, honor, and wealth operate in concert. No aspects of friendship,
pleasure, honor, and wealth ought to be practiced too much (excess) or too little (deficient); moral
virtue is action performed between two extremes (Nic. Ethics, 1106b5 25). And it is by consultation
that one may find the middle ground between excess and deficiency, The Golden Mean (Nic. Ethics,
1097b5 20; Nic. Ethics, 1104a10 25). Virtue is, by definition, the excellent performance of an object s
function (Nic. Ethics, 1097b25 30). A thing s function is determined by eliminating every ability that
isn t exclusive to what it is to be that thing (Nic. Ethics, 1097b30 1098a5). For example, a

Essay on Community Profile
Introduction
The locality I have based my community profile on is Ardoyne. I feel that Ardoyne is familiar enough
for me to carry out my research as I have lived here all my life. Although my project is based in
Belfast city centre, we work with many groups and young people from the Ardoyne area. this would
prove beneficial to myself as I would sometimes have already developed a relationship with the young
people through community life.
I will firstly explore the community I have chosen by speaking to local people, using photographs, and

replied laughing telling her no. she went on to tell me that she walked her granddaughter to school

filled balloons being hurled at her by the protesters. She also talked about the day a pipe bomb was
thrown at the parents and children of the school. She said she wouldn t wish it on anyone as she
slowly walked off. I couldn t help thinking what a bizarre experience just chatting with the old lady,
who was completely open to sharing her experience with me.

The aspect of community life I have chosen to explore is the drinking culture within Ardoyne. In the

environment is contributing to the many issues facing the community of Ardoyne.

The Importance Of The Atomic Bomb
You must not blame us scientists for the use which war technicians have put our discoveries.
Lise Meitner
The nuclear fission process that Meitner had discovered would end up playing a crucial role in World
War II and the world. The atomic bomb, created by Robert Oppenheimer and his team, was based on
the basic elements of nuclear fission. Meitner accomplished nuclear fission by bombarding a large
isotope with a smaller one, commonly a neutron. The collision caused the larger isotope to break apart
into two or more elements, which is called nuclear fission. Reactions of this type also release a lot of
energy. The energy comes from the atomic and subatomic particles that change into the form of energy
during the explosion. You can prove this by attempting to make an extremely accurate measurement of
all the masses of all the atoms and subatomic particles you start with prior to the explosion and all the
atoms and subatomic particles are returned, and then calculate the difference in mass in the two sums,
you find that the answer is larger than 0 which proves that mass goes disappears during the transition.
This loss of matter is called the mass defect. The missing matter is converted into energy. To calculate
the energy released or the mass defect, you can use the equation Einstein is famous for discovering:
E=mc2. In the equation, E represents the amount of energy produced, m is the so called missing mass,
more formally known as the mass defect, and c is the speed of light, which is an extremely large
number. Therefore, we get the equation that m = E/c*c. The speed of light is squared, making that part
of the equation a very large number that, even when multiplied by a small, minute amount of mass,
yields a huge amount of energy. If we look at the equation for the fission of U 235, we would notice
that one neutron created three. These three neutrons, if they encountered other U 235 atoms, could
initiate other fissions, producing even more neutrons, that would in turn, initiate other fissions. It s the
domino effect except this time, instead of a row of dominos, it is a wide spread fan of dominos. In
terms of nuclear chemistry, fission a continuing cascade of nuclear fissions that can be dubbed a

The United States Incarceration System
The United States incarceration system is a structural foundation of punishment in which is formed by
robust authoritarian power. The United States criminal justice system is not an institution to be
underestimated, as it represents the highest incarceration rate of all world nations at a staggering 700
inmates per 100 thousand citizens (Krisberg, 7). Based on the social and political structure of
democracy in the United States, it is argued that incarceration systems should follow the same roots of
equality and freedom; however, the current format demonstrates otherwise. Currently, the United
States criminal justice system faces issues of inhumane treatment due to the sheer overcrowding,
which restrict inmates from just treatment within penitentiaries. This lack of equality standards was
argued in the 2011 court case, Brown v. Plata, which California prison systems were forced to
decrease prisons overcapacity rate from 175% to 137.5% due to the overwhelming amount of inmate
mistreatment (Koehler, 3). In the decision of Brown v. Plata (2011), supreme court justice Anthony
Kennedy argued dignity should be an organizing principle in the United States justice system and
demonstrated in all correctional facilities. Anthony Kennedy, along with guest lecturer, Jonathan
Simon characterize dignity as a fundamental piece to the incarceration system, and without it, inmates
are victimized to cruel and inhumane treatment. Dignity does not consist of domination and unequal

The Pros And Cons Of Bullying
In this world of negativity, I believe that you should stay positive. When I was in elementary school, I
used to get bullied for being bigger than all the other kids. I didn t understand why was I getting

Being bullied made me feel like I wasn t good enough. I was called names for being fat and not
dressing like everyone else. Being in elementary school, you don t think that dressing a certain way or
looking a certain way is a big deal. I tried looking like everyone else but my family was struggling so
that was an epic fail. Both my parents we on drugs but I didn t think it would affect me this bad. I was
depressed as a chill but I still got up for school to face those bullies. With drug addicted parents and
having to face bullies on a daily basis on push me hard to keep up good grades. I knew I had someone
that I could trust. By the time I hit middle school, I was still going to through the same situation. I
thought there I had no one to turn to since talking to my parents, my teachers and friends didn t do me
much justice. I finally met two people who helped change things for me. Mrs. V was a school

According to the Urban Child Institute, the first three years of development are a crucial time for brain
development. The human nervous system starts to develop at around day eighteen after conception
(Carlson, 2014, p. 55). The brain stem is vital to instinctive functions, such as reflexes, breathing, and
heart rate (Urban Child Institute , 2016). These are functions in the body that just happen without
thinking about doing anything. The cerebrum is a large portion of the brain, which connects the
cerebellum to the brain stem (Urban Child Institute , 2016). This part of the brain is where complex
processes like memory and learning take place. The exterior of the cerebrum is the cerebral cortex,
this part is not fully developed until adulthood and this is where sophisticated activities, such as
planning and decision making are taking place (Urban Child Institute , 2016).
The brain is also broken into four smaller pieces called lobes, they are the occipital lobe, parietal lobe,
temporal lobe, and frontal lobe. The occipital lobe is in the back of the brain and is in charge of vision.
The parietal lobe is related to bodily sensations such as your body temperature, pressure and pain
(Urban Child Institute , 2016). The temporal lobe is intricate to hearing, language skills, social
understanding, and observations of people s eyes and faces (Urban Child Institute , 2016). The frontal
lobe is

The Greeks and The Illiad
The Iliad was a masterpiece of a work, which entertained and gave a description of how the Greeks
lived out their lives in battle and at peace. The Iliad, by Homer, is an epic classic set in Ancient
Greece. The story ,in its own, contained the use of epic characteristics, which reveal further
characteristics of the Greeks. A large influence on the book, was the Greek s religious and
mythological stance along with their strengths and weaknesses that were also displayed. The Greeks,
with both their strengths and weaknesses, reveal the overall character in Homer s tale..

Many Greeks have such matter in them, as like Achilles in the description, who was no mere mortal
among his people. Zeus once predicted, Achilles is a man of great power and thought, he will slay the
brave Hektor and bring honor to his people.... (236) Achilles was a Greek, so forth he was to bring
honor to his people. There was much use of epic characteristics in the Iliad. The Iliad had enormous
battles that were fought constantly between the two opponents. Homer writes in description to Hektor
s fighting, Hektor in the huge pride of his strength rages irresistibly, reliant on Zeus, and gives way to
no one neither god nor man... (204). The characters fighting for the Greeks or Trojans all were
eventually given some kind of supernatural ability to fight such incredible battles. The hero of the
story, Achilles, contained superhuman strength beyond that of any other man. In description of his
strength, ...and the door barred to his room took three men to open it, but Achilles himself alone could
close it. (488) The mother of Achilles was Thetis making him half god, half man. That enabled him to

The Wife Of Bath s Tale Prologue And Story
The idea of a happy marriage has always been described as one that is full of compromise. It has
always been said that to make marriages work, both parties must be willing to give a little bit up to
gain it back later. In the Wife of Bath s Tale Prologue and story, this idea called into question. During
both of these stories, the idea of give and take is a major topic. Largely because the ones that are
getting, are giving up essential control over their lives. In a world where divorce seems to be at an all
time high, these tales attempt to shed light on what it would take to create a happy marriage or
relationship. During the prologue of The Wife of Bath s Tale, the wife discusses her thoughts on roles
between males and females within relationships. She discusses this idea by hitting on two different
points of view, power and religious ideology. The wife talks about all five of her marriages and how
she gained power and control within those relationships by using her body;
In wifehood I will use my instrument
As freely as my maker me it sent . (Kindle pg. 262).
The wife describes the first three of her marriages as very much pragmatic relationships. She would
use her body to control her husbands and to make significant financial gains through them. She was
very sensible when it came to sex within these relationships, because she knew that it gave her power
and control over her men. Due to this, she admitted to the idea of satisfying her needs by means

Nomads Of Brazil
Brazil was inhabited for at least 8000 years ago by Amerindian nomads and semi nomads. Eventually
some of the nomads settled down to farm and eventually formed cities. They lived like this for
thousands of years until the Europeans arrived. In the 16th century, Portugal began to colonize Brasil.
The Portuguese brought many diseases which resulted in the deaths of the majority of the natives. The
surviving natives were decided to be civilized by the Portuguese. This meant mixing with their
women, forcing their culture on them and converting them to Christianity. From 1580 to 1640 Brasil
was slightly neglected along with other Portuguese colonies due to the Hapsburg ownership of
Portugal. In 1690 gold was discovered in Brasil and thousands

  • 2. How To Criminalize Money Laundering Congress crafted a broad statute designed to criminalize the actions of anyone who knowingly participated in an illicit transaction, regardless of its magnitude or dollar value. Although the current money laundering statute is broad and general, there is widespread agreement that it does not criminalize the mere act of spending money generated by the illegal criminal activity. This helps hold the accountability for individuals engaged in criminal activity. Spending money by making a purchase or entering into a transaction is not necessarily a crime, even if the party spending the illegally gained money knows that the money came from illegal activities. Descriptive Essay About My Birthday Day January 13, 2012 is the day when tears ran down my cheeks and feeling the wind rush against my drenched skin, hoping it would drown the sorrows along with the cruise. That day, I felt the pain stab through my heart as I stood on the island and wished they would come back to me. Looking all around and seeing joy, regret, and distraught looks on everyone. The coast guards grabbing me and directing all of us away. Glancing over my shoulder to look at the wreckage one last time, only to close them quickly after seeing the golden bracelet floating in the water again. At 9:39 pm. I walked into my friend s cabin and glanced around surprised. The room was covered with blue and purple balloons, and streamers. Directly on the wall was a banner ... We see the deck is covered with water up to our ankles and the employees are calling for women and children first. Pulling my best friend along trying to push through to get to the lifeboats. As we arrived to one of the last lifeboats, we hear loud sobbing behind us. I turn around and see a mother attempting to comfort her young sobbing daughter by rubbing and hugging her. My best friend and I looked at each other and nodded to each other, instantly understanding each as fast as lightning strikes. We both step aside and let them take the last two seats on the lifeboat. We stand there watching the lifeboat get lowered into the sea, the water splashing into my mouth getting it all salty. We quickly run around looking for any lifeboats. We see one unoccupied and we sprint like our lives on the line. Right before we got to it, The Italian Captain pushes the lifeboat in the water and jumps in. • 4. The Stresses that Come with Being a Nurse Multiple studies over the past twenty plus years have looked at factors affecting the nurse s workday and the effects it has on them. When an individual first enters a chosen career, he or she is driven. If the work environment is not encouraging of the individual s efforts and concerns, the reality of the job and the individual s prospects begin to deviate and frustration and disappointment happens. (Kerri, 2014) These feelings can bring about job displeasure, resulting in decreased efficiency, loss of confidence and concentration, and behavior changes. If these circumstances are not addressed, stress accumulates and causes typical stress related symptoms. The definite stressors within the work environment that lead to stress and burnout can be different among occupations and between individuals within an occupation. The starting place of burnout is in the work environment, but because not every individuals working in a certain environment will experience burnout, personal risk factors must have a role in putting the individual at risk for burnout. Therefore, personality is another important factor to be considered. Jennings (2010) found that: Neuroticism has been associated with exhaustion. External locus of control has demonstrated a positive relationship with burnout and stress. Findings are mixed for hardiness. Evaluations of anxiety reflect a link with stress and burnout. The contemporary mafiosi are descendents of the seventeenth Century highwaymen and Cossack robbers. These men occasionally murdered families prior to raids preventing them from being captured. The Russia mafiosi made a point to remain aloof from the state. Mob men were actually spurned when returning home from fighting in the Great Patriotic War. The gangs begin to dominate markets such as car sales, spare parts, cigarettes, food distribution, and other markets that the Communist Party failed to provide under the Bolsheviks (Remnick196). This guarantees that nearly all new businesses will have an affiliation with the mafia. Gustatson estimates that payments can are approximately twenty percent of the profit (105). This is a major form of taxation on top of what the government already commands leading many companies to tax evasion or concealing their exact value. These acts forfeit what little protection the authorities might be able to render. The mafia demands a cut of the earnings but in turn furnish more than adequate security. The mafiosi provides protection from unaffiliated criminals and rival gangs. They ensure that property is not damaged or stolen. If entrepreneurs are visited by another organization, they must only summon their own mafia group. The two gangs will settle the matter themselves (Gustatson 105). This security is an asset that the State seemingly fails to provide. The Russian Mafia has more men and weapons than the Russian law enforcement. The police force is an intently corrupt place as is much of the Russian government. • 7. Cell Phones And Its Effect On Children Essay Teenagers are constantly on their cell phone, which leads to extreme overuse of it. In an acknowledgeable book, Ling (2004) described how teenagers use cell phones and the direct effects of having one. Adolescence is a period in someone s life in which they develop their own identity and self esteem. So, teenagers are at a very influential time in their life and cell phones take advantage of that. When a teen decides to use a cell phone, they are not acting with their own ideas, but rather the culture of their peers. Mobile phones play a role in the teen s peer group. Since a teen is still developing their own identity and sense of self esteem, they fall into the vicious cycle of only doing what other teens are. Like a lot of technology, cell phones have not been around that long. So, no generation of teenagers have really been able to access this kind of technology before. Since it is a newer technology, teens and parents are still making up the rules as they go. As a result, teenagers easily over use their cell phone without even realizing it. When no clear boundaries are set, teenagers take advantage of that, and use the device as much as possible. Some teenagers objectify the cell phone and incorporate it into their daily lives, but their parents are still way back in the adoption process. Mobile phones are the way that teens inside a peer group communicate now, using it as a main form of communication makes it easier to overuse the cell phone. In a well conducted ... The Aeschylus Trilogy And Sweat By Lynn Nottage The Aeschylus Trilogy and Sweat by Lynn Nottage, though written thousands of years apart, actually share the same underlying problems especially when it comes the the characters that drive the plot. In both plays, there is this very prominent character trait found in most, if not all, the characters, selfishness. These self centered characters actually create conflict simply by only thinking of themselves. The self centered and selfish air in both time periods, whether brought up by individual characters or even character groups, drives the plot in both the Aeschylus Trilogy and Sweat. The mythical story of Agamemnon opens with an air of hope and fear as the very weary watchmen and city of Argos wait for the fall of Troy, a war that has been going on for ten years. After the signal is seen, Agamemnon s wife Clytemnestra, who has been ruling in his absence, appears from her home and tells the city the great news, they have won the war. Agamemnon arrives home and has brought the captured Trojan princess Cassandra, his concubine. Clytemnestra falsely welcomes him with gifts that will lead him to his death. If not, what are the actions of the government that have been taken to prevent monopoly? A Monopoly power as study showcases is when a firm has monopoly power it will engage itself a little competition. Which also means that a monopoly is a price maker and its demand curve will be inelastic. If Monopoly set to increase prices demand, it would only fall by a small percentage. According to Pettinger, R. (2013), a monopoly is likely to cause the following effects in the economy development as stated below: i. Monopoly would increase price and decline consumer surplus, in that case, demand is will be inelastic. By so doing, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Monopoly will cause allocative inefficiency by introducing higher prices and less choice for consumers. vi. A situation where monopolies get too high, they may experience what we call diseconomies of scale. vii. Monopolies can use their monopoly power to achieve a goal by paying lower prices to their suppliers. For examples, A Supermarkets will pay low prices to farmers since the farmers do not have any other choice than to sell their products. The effects of monopoly on economic development can also be seen from another aspect where we have Price exceeding Marginal Cost, Price exceeding lowest Average Total Cost. This results to an efficiency loss (dead weight loss) where we have sum of consumer surplus plus producer surplus is less than maximum. Raunch Culture The issue of sexuality in advertising has been raised in the last ten years (Brooke, 2010; Bradley, 2007; Phillips, 2005; Kent, 2005 Levy, 2005), hence the concept of raunch culture raises the question of whether women are being empowered or victimised. This essay will discuss whether raunch culture represents a wave of new feminism, focusing on whether women s sexuality is being celebrated in a healthy and empowering manner or preyed upon by marketing s misogynistic and exploitating image of the good life laid out in various media forms, from billboards to sex videos to television advertisements and movies. Criticism of using sexuality in advertising has also noted that it promotes the objectification of women and them in a disrespectful environment (Boddewyn, 1991). Hence, at this point when Hilton is famous, marketers should take responsibility, as they further marketed her with an image of a bimbotic girl (Bradely, 2007). Moreover, as Richins (1991) reports, women always make social comparisons between the advertising models and themselves. As a result, advertising images create negative affect and increases women s dissatisfaction with their own appearance. Since those images are edited through the consistent usage of digital technology, these idealized images do not portray women in a healthy manner. Indeed, these enhanced images would give these young girls the impression that they need to be perfect , just like these fake images. According to Reist in ABC s Gruen Session (2010), young women get the message that they need to be thin, hot and sexy just to be acceptable in this society. Therefore, by generating the wrong perception of real beauty, the responsibility is pushed to the marketers, as they portray women with this stereotypical body type as acceptable. In addition, as the brand, Dove s tagline in its advertisement What happened to the real beauty ? (Reist, 2010), marketers need not market their products in manners portraying women as airheads. Consequently, marketers gave most consumers viewing the advertisement, the wrong impression that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Memory System Essay example Memories are creative recollections of past experiences that are unique to each individual. They define us and give us our identity. Memories are a collection of information, which at one time was new to us, and as we learned and progressed, that information became stored as memory. The main fact to memory is that practice and repetition is a key asset to making the brain encode the information as memory. When the brain encodes this information it is stored, waiting to be retrieved. When we memorize something, it is stored for a certain amount of time in the brain, the more we recall this information the more familiar we become with it, making it easier to remember and recall later in life. The process of memory is still a mystery, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While yet it is the most complex process neuroscience has ever tried to define. Most theorists believe that the brain encodes information in two different types, motor skills memory and factual memory. Motor skills memory is the memorization of functions like running, walking, or eating. While factual memory is associated with the memorization of telephone number, names, places, and experiences. Some theorists believe this is the basic foundation to memories. Associated with these two types are three levels, Sensory memory, Short term memory, and Long term memory. Sensory memory is the level, which absorbs the things around us using the five main senses, sight, smell, touch, sound, and taste. This level of memory is thought to only last a matter of seconds, and only moves on to the next level if enough attention is given to the information. (Baddeley, 1976) If not enough attention is given to the information it is ignored by the brain and forgotten. (Howe, 1983) The second level of memory is the Short term memory. This level is believed to only have a capacity of 7 items, and have a duration time of no more than thirty seconds. (Bjork, 1996) When memories in the short term are used more and more it sends it to the next level, but again this is only done by practice or repetition. This dark period in world history demonstrated unmatched violence and cruelty towards the Jewish race that led toward genocide. Many warning signs within world events helped provide Germany and Adolf Hitler the foundation to carry out increasing levels of human depravity (Mission Statement). Most importantly, while many agree that genocide should never have happened to any race, by breaking down genocide from its many elements and events, valuable knowledge and understanding will result on how not to let it happen again. To begin, Anti Semitism was a huge thing with an enormous impact on all of these events. Anti Semitism was a pretty common phenomenon around the holocaust era, but it could have never been made clearer how much dislike the Germans had for the Jews than by having the holocaust. The holocaust was the most extreme method of showing contempt toward a person. The tragic point is that they became convinced and determined they were doing all of Germany a favor by getting rid of the Jews because they were just another flaw in the country; and Germans came to believe that. In his first Anti Semitic writing of 1919, Hitler demonstrated this desire to rid Germany of the Jews, The ultimate objective [of such legislation] must, however, be the irrevocable removal of the Jews ... This theory gets its meaning because the word egoism derives from the Latin term ego , meaning I in English (Moseley). The motivation of ethical egoism depends on how the situation will act upon one s self interest. In this paper, I am going to defend and explain that babies are born with morality of the ethical egoism theory. Ethical egoism stands out from the rest of the ethical theories, due to the fact, that it focuses on the individual and how it will benefit them and only them. People who do not go out of their way to help others unless it benefits them are known as, ethical egoists. People following the ethical egoism theory typically are looking out what is better for them. For example, a person invites her friend to go to the store late at night because she is afraid to go alone since crime is high in the area, she is thinking of her own safety first not so much her friends safety. Is being an ethical egoist a bad morality? The answer to the question is simply, no. We in fact are born as an ethical egoist. As babies, we are after our own self interest, not others, because we do not know any better at such a young age. In a way we all have a part of ethical egoism in our morals since we all start out as an ethical egoist when we are born. We are not taught to act in our own self interest it just comes natural. • 32. Comparing Aristotle And David Hume There are two significant empiricists I m going to focus on, Aristotle and David Hume. Specifically, the focus is on their ethics: what those ethics are, how they differ from each other, and which is superior. Superiority will be determined by the philosophy s usefulness whether the epitome of a philosophy s virtue is attainable by man; and how conducive the philosophy is to human happiness. In both of these respects, Aristotle is superior to Hume. To Aristotle, ethics is not an exact science, it s ruled by broad generalizations that work most of the time and are found with those of experience, the men of practical wisdom (Nicomachean Ethics, 1094b15 1095a10). We don t need a focused study in the sciences to understand the good, all one needs is a proper understanding of how the external aspects of life: friendship, pleasure, honor, and wealth operate in concert. No aspects of friendship, pleasure, honor, and wealth ought to be practiced too much (excess) or too little (deficient); moral virtue is action performed between two extremes (Nic. Ethics, 1106b5 25). And it is by consultation that one may find the middle ground between excess and deficiency, The Golden Mean (Nic. Ethics, 1097b5 20; Nic. Ethics, 1104a10 25). Virtue is, by definition, the excellent performance of an object s function (Nic. Ethics, 1097b25 30). A thing s function is determined by eliminating every ability that isn t exclusive to what it is to be that thing (Nic. Ethics, 1097b30 1098a5). For example, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Essay on Community Profile Introduction The locality I have based my community profile on is Ardoyne. I feel that Ardoyne is familiar enough for me to carry out my research as I have lived here all my life. Although my project is based in Belfast city centre, we work with many groups and young people from the Ardoyne area. this would prove beneficial to myself as I would sometimes have already developed a relationship with the young people through community life. I will firstly explore the community I have chosen by speaking to local people, using photographs, and recordings of my observations. In doing so I intend to create a picture and overall feeling of the community as well as the people who live here. This data will be accompanied by my own comments in ... The older generation in particular take pride in their what s mine is yours attitude. While taking this picture an old lady quietly asked me if I was a tourist. I replied laughing telling her no. she went on to tell me that she walked her granddaughter to school through the protesters each morning while it lasted. In that time she had to endure spitting and urine filled balloons being hurled at her by the protesters. She also talked about the day a pipe bomb was thrown at the parents and children of the school. She said she wouldn t wish it on anyone as she slowly walked off. I couldn t help thinking what a bizarre experience just chatting with the old lady, who was completely open to sharing her experience with me. Improving a specific aspect of community life The aspect of community life I have chosen to explore is the drinking culture within Ardoyne. In the small area that is Ardoyne there are eight pubs, five of which being night clubs. I feel that this environment is contributing to the many issues facing the community of Ardoyne. • 34. The Importance Of The Atomic Bomb You must not blame us scientists for the use which war technicians have put our discoveries. Lise Meitner The nuclear fission process that Meitner had discovered would end up playing a crucial role in World War II and the world. The atomic bomb, created by Robert Oppenheimer and his team, was based on the basic elements of nuclear fission. Meitner accomplished nuclear fission by bombarding a large isotope with a smaller one, commonly a neutron. The collision caused the larger isotope to break apart into two or more elements, which is called nuclear fission. Reactions of this type also release a lot of energy. The energy comes from the atomic and subatomic particles that change into the form of energy during the explosion. You can prove this by attempting to make an extremely accurate measurement of all the masses of all the atoms and subatomic particles you start with prior to the explosion and all the atoms and subatomic particles are returned, and then calculate the difference in mass in the two sums, you find that the answer is larger than 0 which proves that mass goes disappears during the transition. This loss of matter is called the mass defect. The missing matter is converted into energy. To calculate the energy released or the mass defect, you can use the equation Einstein is famous for discovering: E=mc2. In the equation, E represents the amount of energy produced, m is the so called missing mass, more formally known as the mass defect, and c is the speed of light, which is an extremely large number. Therefore, we get the equation that m = E/c*c. The speed of light is squared, making that part of the equation a very large number that, even when multiplied by a small, minute amount of mass, yields a huge amount of energy. If we look at the equation for the fission of U 235, we would notice that one neutron created three. These three neutrons, if they encountered other U 235 atoms, could initiate other fissions, producing even more neutrons, that would in turn, initiate other fissions. It s the domino effect except this time, instead of a row of dominos, it is a wide spread fan of dominos. In terms of nuclear chemistry, fission a continuing cascade of nuclear fissions that can be dubbed a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. The United States Incarceration System The United States incarceration system is a structural foundation of punishment in which is formed by robust authoritarian power. The United States criminal justice system is not an institution to be underestimated, as it represents the highest incarceration rate of all world nations at a staggering 700 inmates per 100 thousand citizens (Krisberg, 7). Based on the social and political structure of democracy in the United States, it is argued that incarceration systems should follow the same roots of equality and freedom; however, the current format demonstrates otherwise. Currently, the United States criminal justice system faces issues of inhumane treatment due to the sheer overcrowding, which restrict inmates from just treatment within penitentiaries. This lack of equality standards was argued in the 2011 court case, Brown v. Plata, which California prison systems were forced to decrease prisons overcapacity rate from 175% to 137.5% due to the overwhelming amount of inmate mistreatment (Koehler, 3). In the decision of Brown v. Plata (2011), supreme court justice Anthony Kennedy argued dignity should be an organizing principle in the United States justice system and demonstrated in all correctional facilities. Anthony Kennedy, along with guest lecturer, Jonathan Simon characterize dignity as a fundamental piece to the incarceration system, and without it, inmates are victimized to cruel and inhumane treatment. Dignity does not consist of domination and unequal treatment of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When I was in elementary school, I used to get bullied for being bigger than all the other kids. I didn t understand why was I getting bullied, but I was still nice. I did what I was supposed to do to maintain good grades and pass all my classes. Staying positive in a world full of mean people can take you as far, as you allow it too. Being bullied made me feel like I wasn t good enough. I was called names for being fat and not dressing like everyone else. Being in elementary school, you don t think that dressing a certain way or looking a certain way is a big deal. I tried looking like everyone else but my family was struggling so that was an epic fail. Both my parents we on drugs but I didn t think it would affect me this bad. I was depressed as a chill but I still got up for school to face those bullies. With drug addicted parents and having to face bullies on a daily basis on push me hard to keep up good grades. I knew I had someone that I could trust. By the time I hit middle school, I was still going to through the same situation. I thought there I had no one to turn to since talking to my parents, my teachers and friends didn t do me much justice. I finally met two people who helped change things for me. • 40. Developmental Stages And Theories From Birth From Adolescence Developmental Stages and Theories from Birth to Adolescence Neurological Development According to the Urban Child Institute, the first three years of development are a crucial time for brain development. The human nervous system starts to develop at around day eighteen after conception (Carlson, 2014, p. 55). The brain stem is vital to instinctive functions, such as reflexes, breathing, and heart rate (Urban Child Institute , 2016). These are functions in the body that just happen without thinking about doing anything. The cerebrum is a large portion of the brain, which connects the cerebellum to the brain stem (Urban Child Institute , 2016). This part of the brain is where complex processes like memory and learning take place. The exterior of the cerebrum is the cerebral cortex, this part is not fully developed until adulthood and this is where sophisticated activities, such as planning and decision making are taking place (Urban Child Institute , 2016). The brain is also broken into four smaller pieces called lobes, they are the occipital lobe, parietal lobe, temporal lobe, and frontal lobe. The occipital lobe is in the back of the brain and is in charge of vision. The parietal lobe is related to bodily sensations such as your body temperature, pressure and pain (Urban Child Institute , 2016). The temporal lobe is intricate to hearing, language skills, social understanding, and observations of people s eyes and faces (Urban Child Institute , 2016). The frontal lobe is ... The Portuguese brought many diseases which resulted in the deaths of the majority of the natives. The surviving natives were decided to be civilized by the Portuguese. This meant mixing with their women, forcing their culture on them and converting them to Christianity.
