Proverbs are popular sayings that express some
general truth or contain some practical advice/
wisdom.
Proverbs that express a general rule of behavior or
conduct are called Maxims
Example:

Maxim: Look before you leap
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Jack of all trades, master of none
Don’t judge a book by it’s cover
Make love not war
No man is an island
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure

Honesty is the best policy
No man can serve two masters
Take it one game at a time
What goes up must come down
What you see is what you get
