Editor's Notes

  • #2: Welcome to the Missouri Oral Health Preventive Services Program; The Preventive Services Program can also be referred to as the PSP .This program is administered through the Department of Health and Senior Services. The intent of the PSP is to mobilize a community toward protecting the oral health of its children. People across Missouri are gathering together for PSP events to “MAKE A DIFFERENCE WHERE THEY LIVE!”Essential to the success of the PSP is the community-wide involvement of various groups and individuals toward this common goal of children’s oral health.Examples of these groups include schools, childcare facilities, hospitals, community organizations, businesses and dental professionals.
  • #3: The PSP has four basic components. The first component is a surveillance tool. An oral screening of a community’s children is conducted once per year by a volunteer dentist or dental hygienist. Secondly, oral health educational materials and oral health education are built into the PSP structure. Prevention is the third component of the PSP. To prevent dental decay, fluoride varnish is applied twice per year by community volunteers. The fourth component is referral. Children identified with urgent or unmet dental care needs are referred to a local dentists for treatment. The PSP is designed for children of all ages-infant through 18 years of age.
