Executive Summary
During our internship at PTCL, we were deployed in WLL (Wireless Local Loops) Optimization
and Corporate Support. The department of WLL ensures smooth operation of the wireless
technologies of PTCL by Recording and analyzing the wireless parameters of the system via
software.
The above Statement is better explained by the fact that the Department of Optimization
monitors the parameters of WLL with software like Nemo Outdoor and analyzer and tries to
diagnose as well as overcome any fault occurring therein. They also conduct static and dynamic
drive tests to measure strength of the wireless signals at different locations in the city. However,
if the issue is as such that its requires repairing hardware on the site and maintenance of the cell
site, they report it to the operation teams which then takes necessary measures at the site to deal
with the flaws.
The Corporate Support can be defined as being the liaison between the corporations in the
country and PTCL. While the Technical Department installs and maintains the equipment for the
customer, it is basically the corporate support that actually arranges the packages for the
corporations. It is an exceedingly important aspect of PTCL since a large number of firms
require communication services and PTCL is the largest provider of telecommunication solutions
in the country.
Overall, during our internship, we learned a lot of practicability of the things that we had learned
in theory and the ways in which mathematical modelling is in fact a very precise and exceedingly
accurate model of real life situations. This wonderful opportunity also got us acquainted with
managerial practices in a corporate atmosphere which is indispensable in our character building
and shaping our professional life in the future.
The document which follows this summary is the abridged version of all the things which we
experienced during our time at the two departments of PTCL.

critical thinking problems in our tasks. Also, we would like to thank the HR department at
PTCL for providing us with this wonderful opportunity to experience the corporate as well as
technical culture characteristic of corporations all around the world.
Also, we would seize this opportunity to thank Ms Uzma Jilani as well all the staff at corporate
support for making us understand the skills necessary for understanding the corporate world of
telecommunications in the city as well as some basic idea of the prevailing international
situation. We came to know of the major clients and competitors of the PTCL as well the edge of
the company during our time there.
Deserving laurels are also the staff at our universities Career Development Staff who helped and
worked tirelessly in arranging this Internship for our professional development and edification.
Kudos to our parents as well who left no stone unturned to support and help us during the tenure
of our internship.

Introduction to PTCL
PTCL is largest telecommunication company of Pakistan. It has reached its service to almost
every part of the country. (PTCL) is proud to be Pakistan’s most reliable and largest converged
services carrier providing all telecommunications services from basic voice telephony to data,
internet, video-conferencing and carrier services to consumers and businesses all over the
country with more the 2000 exchanges all providing at least the fixed line network and the
dialup internet service.
Whether it is an office in the largest city of Pakistan or a home in a small village, PTCL is
present in every corner of Pakistan to serve its customers providing several services.
Some of its services are named below:
 Broadband
 IPTV
 EVO Wireless
 Dialup Internet
 Telephone
PTCL is established since 1947 by establishing Posts and Telegraph’s Department, proceeding
to establishing Pakistan Telegraph and Telephone Department in 1961, then in 1990-91, it
went to become Pakistan Telecom Corporation, after which in 1996, PTCL became listed in
all stock exchanges of Pakistan, further in 1998, its subsidiaries of Mobile Services, and
Internet Services started on the name of Ufone and PakNet, coming to the year 2000, it
Finalized its Telecom Policy. It also announced in year 2003, the Telecom Deregulation
Policy, finally in 2006, Etisalat (The Telecom Company of United Arab Emirates) took over
6 | P a g e
its Management and it is still holding the status of backbone for country's telecommunication
infrastructure despite arrival of a dozen other telecoms including telecom giants like Telenor,
China Mobile, Wateen Telecom, and others.
PTCL operates in one of the most dynamic, deregulated and competitive markets in the world;
Pakistan with a population of 165 million people is a fast growing economy with relatively low
penetration of Information Communication Technology (ICT) services.
PTCL intends to be the leading ICT provider in the region by achieving customers' satisfaction
and maximizing shareholders' value and as such PTCL perceives its future as a customer centric
organization enhancing its infrastructure and investing in people.

Objective Of Studying The Organization
The primary motivation to study the organization well as the structure the PTCL was to gain an
insight of how the engineering as well as managerial skills are utilized in real-life situations that
is beyond the skills that we usually acquire in educational institutions.
Since we belong primarily to the engineering branch associated with electrical engineering and
computer science, the study of PTCL provided us with an opportunity to experience in real-time
the abstract telecommunication concepts we had studied during our studies. The concept of
mobile phone generations as well as the cell switching were some the things which we have only
read about it the books, but during our internship, we saw that happening in real-time on
software. We also observed the skill of trouble-shooting as well as contingency planning being
utilized as per the situation during our time with the technical team.
In a similar manner the department of corporate support provided us with the opportunity to
realize the significance of the skills of pitching engineering knowledge to business as well
corporations and how to exactly sell the engineering products to the firms. Hence the objective of
dealing with the corporate side of engineering firms was also achieved via this internship.
Another minor benefit of this will be in our personal life, when we will choose the PTCL
products or recommend it, we would know the benefits which it will bring us.
Hence, getting acquainted with the culture of PTCL is highly valuable in our future employment
prospects as well as any research oriented career which we may wish to pursue in the future.

Internship Activities
During our internship, we were engaged in several engaging activities which were geared
towards enhancing our understanding as well knowledge of the tasks performed by the respective
departments.
Wireless Local Loop (WLL)
The Basic task, in WLL, was the monitoring of the LTE Parameters with special emphasis on:
1. RSSI: RSSI represents the total received wide-band power by UE. RSSI is measured
only in symbols containing Reference signals. RSSI includes power from serving cell as
well as co-channel interference and noise. RSSI helps in determining interference and
noise information. RSSI is never reported by UE.
2. RSRP: RSRP is the linear average of the downlink reference signals across the channel
bandwidth. RSRP provides information about signal strength and gives no indication of
signal quality. RSRP measurements are used in handover, cell selection and cell re-
selections. The reporting range of RSRP is defined from -140 dBm to -44 dBm with 1 dB
resolution as shown in table below
3. RSRQ: RSRQ indicates quality of received reference signal. RSRQ measurement and
calculation is based on RSRP and RSSI since RSRP determines signal quality and RSSI
determines co-channel interference and noise. RSRQ formula is shown below (N
represents number of resource blocks). The reporting range of RSRQ is defined from -
19.5 dB to -3 with 0.5 dB resolution
4. SINR(Signal to Interference & Noise Ratio): SINR is a measure of signal quality
as well but it is not defined in the 3GPP specs but defined by the UE vendor. It is not
reported to the network. SINR is used a lot by operators, and the LTE industry in general,
as it better quantifies the relationship between RF conditions and Throughput. UEs
typically use SINR to calculate the CQI (Channel Quality Indicator) they report to the
network.
13 | P a g e
5. CSSR: it is the fraction of the attempts to make a call that result in a connection to the
dialed number (due to various reasons not all call attempts end with a connection to the
dialed number). This fraction is usually measured as a percentage of all call attempts
made.

Some of the activities performed during our tenure are recounted below:
1. Verifying and Correcting Excel Sheets
During the internship at WLL, The department faced a discrepancy in their data base where the
data in one spreadsheet didn’t match the data in other spreadsheet as such there was a need to
verify as well as correct the two records. The screenshot is shown below:
We had to check the PN number of the two sheets to verify if the information matches also we
ensured that there was a difference of 168 between 2 BSC to ensure that the data was correct.
Once we had to check each cell location in the south region, we filled the correct BTS with
green, missing with yellow, erroneous with red and repeated reading with orange. This we later
presented to the administration of the department, who appreciated our efforts.
2. Performing Static Drive test
During our internship, we also performed the primary task of the WLL team that is the
conduction of static and dynamic drive tests using Nemo Out door software. We were only able
to perform the static drive test at PAK-Capital using Nemo outdoor software, the screenshot of
which is shown below. The tools used for this were PTCL 4G (Charjee) Dongle, License card
and GPS. The drive test we conducted was of PAK-Capital cell and hence gave positive results.
22 | P a g e
3. Monitoring Cell Performance
To monitor the cell performance, we evaluated the four carrier signals of the individual cells.
The four different colored signals shown above should follow the same pattern if the cell is
working properly. In case there was any problem, we recorded the cell site ID and submitted the
final list to the staff to be delivered to the operations team.
4. Netnuman Software to check call success ratio
We used the Net Numan software which for for the ZTE vendor to monitor the call success ratio
rate. The cell sites where the success ratio was less were to be examined and we picked threshold
percentage to be 75% (taking into account external influences on the network), less than 75
indicated that there was some technical issue with the system. At the end of this task, we gave
the report about it to the staff to be sednt o the operations team.
23 | P a g e
5. Software and Vendor Overview
During the course of our internship, we learned about Major software used by WLL and also the
Vendors with whom PTCL has agreement to purchase equipment. A brief overview of both is
given below.
Hardware Vendors:
ZTE Corporation: It is a Chinese multinational telecommunications equipment and systems
company headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong. It provides telecommunication equipment to
WLL.
Huawei: Huawei Technologies is a Chinese multinational networking and telecommunications
equipment and services company headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong. The equipment
related to 4G technology is mostly provided by Huawei to WLL
Software Utilized:
1. NETNUMEN: It is specifically used for LTE KPI (key parametric indicator) monitoring
and gives alarm in case of deviation.
2. CNO2: It comprises of several parametric templates which are used to check all the
parameters of 1X ( voice calls) and EVIDIO
3. Huawei M-200: Primarily used for monitoring the BSC in Hyderabad in the south
region. It can monitor any technology (i.e 1X, EVIDIO, LTE) and gives alarm in case of
any problem or blunder by the user.
4. Nemo Outdoor and Analyzer: It is used for site monitoring and parameter analysis. The
outdoor mode of Nemo can be used for on the site parameter real-time monitoring and
surveillance.
5. MapInfo: It is used for site planning and contains location of cell site, azimuth and
layout of the various cell sites in the database.
24 | P a g e
6. Making KML to show cell sites on google Earth
KML (Keyhole Markup Language) is an XML based file format used to display geographic data
in an Earth browser such as Google Earth, Google Maps, and Google Maps for mobile.
With KML, you can display pretty much everything on a map. You can either email it to friends
or you can upload it to Google Maps (Google My Maps feature) and share it with everyone. But
best of all, you can upload the file to an online host, and use the KMLs to be displayed on any of
your custom maps (i.e on your blogs, websites, etc). This way, you can customize the maps' look
& feel and its behavior to suit your needs.
WLL uses KML files to place the location of their cell sites on the map, hence one of our tasks
was to develop a KML file to learn how the management of the cell-sites is carried out.
We places all the coordinates in the Google earth software to obtain a KML file showing all
some of the cell site location in the South region of PTCL and their respective coordinates. The
file we later showed to the staff, along with the marks on the map

7. Understanding the Basic LTE system
Our very first task at WLL was to understand the LTE system as in how it works. In most
universities in Karachi, students only know the basics of the cellphone generations and Long-
term evolution and as such we were first given the task to read the first chapter of LTE by John
Wiley to understand the basics of LTE. We understood the basics of Mobile Phone operation by
the end of this task. The screen shot from the book demonstrating the European and American
standards is shown below:

Social responsibility is an ethical framework that suggests that an entity, be it an organization or
individual, has an obligation to act to benefit society at large. Social responsibility is a duty every
individual has to perform so as to maintain a balance between the economy and the ecosystems,
for example reducing our carbon footprint and maintaining environmentally responsible business
practices. Some of the actions taken by PTCL in this regard are given below:

9. Learning about Vision and Brand Philosophy of PTCL
We studied about the vision and philosophy behind the motto and logo of PTCL “Hello to the
future” and learned that:
The first key word “Hello” captures the essence of the whole telephony network that is the
backbone of PTCL. “Hello” is a word which is related to the telecommunication history and has
been used ever since and will be used in future. This word expresses the welcoming nature of the
PTCL brand, its customer oriented approach and warm environment. Everyday most
conversations and relationships start with the word “Hello”, hence it portrays the relationship
building of PTCL with its customers.
The second key word “Future” translates PTCL philosophy in a nutshell to provide planned and
proactive solutions and products to its customers. PTCL is constantly evolving and taking its
customers into the future. The word “Future” holds the promise that PTCL is committed to, by
providing complete customer satisfaction through innovative and futuristic services and
products. PTCL is breaking the stereotypical perception launching into the Future embracing it
as the mission to transform the world of telecommunication and the way its customers
communicate. PTCL establishes itself as a futuristic entity which is working constantly towards
inventing paramount solutions for its customers.
The font style selected is bold, straight and modern. The font depicts the brand values that PTCL
fosters.

Conclusion and Recommendation for PTCL
The deployment at PTCL has given us a very keen insight into the workings of PTCL and
telecommunications industry in the country. If, in the future, we try to pursue a career at PTCL
or any other telecommunication industry, we would have a solid background to start with, being
equipped with both the basic technical as well as engineering skills commonly utilized in the
industry.
The internship program of PTCL was perfectly planned and executed and there is very little
room for improvement. However, we have few suggestions which we believe would be useful
for PTCL including:
 There should be a Booklet detailing the departments and tasks performed by every respective
department of PTCL so that interns have proper knowledge of various organs of PTCL prior
to their joining.
 A job description like contract should be given to interns prior to their joining so that interns
are entirely clear about their tasks, obligations and leverages that internship position has for
them.
 Exchanging or switching their PTCL department should be easy for the interns as per their
own feasibility of reaching
Overall, we believe that the aim of Corporate Responsibility which the PTCL wished to pursue
via this internship by edification and exposure of university students has been fully achieved via
this internship and Interns are now better equipped with technical as well as corporate skills. All
the experience attained with this would be indispensable in our future success.

  • 1. PTCL – SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM 2016 PTCL INTERNSHIP REPORT WLL OPTIMIZATION AND CORPORATE SUPPORT Submitted by: MUHAMMAD FARHAN PNEC-NUST This Internship Report is a brief summary of all the tasks that we performed during our time as intern at PTCL during the summer internship program. It contains all the various aspects of PTCL which we encountered during our time there in a compact format.

  • 3. 3 | P a g e Executive Summary During our internship at PTCL, we were deployed in WLL (Wireless Local Loops) Optimization and Corporate Support. The department of WLL ensures smooth operation of the wireless technologies of PTCL by Recording and analyzing the wireless parameters of the system via software. The above Statement is better explained by the fact that the Department of Optimization monitors the parameters of WLL with software like Nemo Outdoor and analyzer and tries to diagnose as well as overcome any fault occurring therein. They also conduct static and dynamic drive tests to measure strength of the wireless signals at different locations in the city. However, if the issue is as such that its requires repairing hardware on the site and maintenance of the cell site, they report it to the operation teams which then takes necessary measures at the site to deal with the flaws. The Corporate Support can be defined as being the liaison between the corporations in the country and PTCL. While the Technical Department installs and maintains the equipment for the customer, it is basically the corporate support that actually arranges the packages for the corporations. It is an exceedingly important aspect of PTCL since a large number of firms require communication services and PTCL is the largest provider of telecommunication solutions in the country. Overall, during our internship, we learned a lot of practicability of the things that we had learned in theory and the ways in which mathematical modelling is in fact a very precise and exceedingly accurate model of real life situations. This wonderful opportunity also got us acquainted with managerial practices in a corporate atmosphere which is indispensable in our character building and shaping our professional life in the future. The document which follows this summary is the abridged version of all the things which we experienced during our time at the two departments of PTCL.
  • 4. 4 | P a g e Acknowledgement We would like to cordially thank Mr. Shiraz Ali as well the all the managerial staff in WLL for this whole-hearted approach in making us understand the complete process of Wireless and giving a wonderful shape to our internship by integrating various problem solving as well as critical thinking problems in our tasks. Also, we would like to thank the HR department at PTCL for providing us with this wonderful opportunity to experience the corporate as well as technical culture characteristic of corporations all around the world. Also, we would seize this opportunity to thank Ms Uzma Jilani as well all the staff at corporate support for making us understand the skills necessary for understanding the corporate world of telecommunications in the city as well as some basic idea of the prevailing international situation. We came to know of the major clients and competitors of the PTCL as well the edge of the company during our time there. Deserving laurels are also the staff at our universities Career Development Staff who helped and worked tirelessly in arranging this Internship for our professional development and edification. Kudos to our parents as well who left no stone unturned to support and help us during the tenure of our internship. Last but not the least; I will like to thank my fellow intern Muhammad Nabeel Asif for his help in making me write this report as well as assisting me throughout the internship.
  • 5. 5 | P a g e Introduction to PTCL PTCL is largest telecommunication company of Pakistan. It has reached its service to almost every part of the country. (PTCL) is proud to be Pakistan’s most reliable and largest converged services carrier providing all telecommunications services from basic voice telephony to data, internet, video-conferencing and carrier services to consumers and businesses all over the country with more the 2000 exchanges all providing at least the fixed line network and the dialup internet service. • 6. 6 | P a g e its Management and it is still holding the status of backbone for country's telecommunication infrastructure despite arrival of a dozen other telecoms including telecom giants like Telenor, China Mobile, Wateen Telecom, and others. PTCL operates in one of the most dynamic, deregulated and competitive markets in the world; Pakistan with a population of 165 million people is a fast growing economy with relatively low penetration of Information Communication Technology (ICT) services. PTCL intends to be the leading ICT provider in the region by achieving customers' satisfaction and maximizing shareholders' value and as such PTCL perceives its future as a customer centric organization enhancing its infrastructure and investing in people. ‘
  • 7. 7 | P a g e Objective Of Studying The Organization The primary motivation to study the organization well as the structure the PTCL was to gain an insight of how the engineering as well as managerial skills are utilized in real-life situations that is beyond the skills that we usually acquire in educational institutions. Since we belong primarily to the engineering branch associated with electrical engineering and computer science, the study of PTCL provided us with an opportunity to experience in real-time the abstract telecommunication concepts we had studied during our studies. The concept of mobile phone generations as well as the cell switching were some the things which we have only read about it the books, but during our internship, we saw that happening in real-time on software. We also observed the skill of trouble-shooting as well as contingency planning being utilized as per the situation during our time with the technical team. In a similar manner the department of corporate support provided us with the opportunity to realize the significance of the skills of pitching engineering knowledge to business as well corporations and how to exactly sell the engineering products to the firms. Hence the objective of dealing with the corporate side of engineering firms was also achieved via this internship. Another minor benefit of this will be in our personal life, when we will choose the PTCL products or recommend it, we would know the benefits which it will bring us. Hence, getting acquainted with the culture of PTCL is highly valuable in our future employment prospects as well as any research oriented career which we may wish to pursue in the future.

  • 12. 12 | P a g e Internship Activities During our internship, we were engaged in several engaging activities which were geared towards enhancing our understanding as well knowledge of the tasks performed by the respective departments. Wireless Local Loop (WLL) The Basic task, in WLL, was the monitoring of the LTE Parameters with special emphasis on: 1. RSSI: RSSI represents the total received wide-band power by UE. RSSI is measured only in symbols containing Reference signals. RSSI includes power from serving cell as well as co-channel interference and noise. RSSI helps in determining interference and noise information. RSSI is never reported by UE. 2. RSRP: RSRP is the linear average of the downlink reference signals across the channel bandwidth. RSRP provides information about signal strength and gives no indication of signal quality. RSRP measurements are used in handover, cell selection and cell re- selections. The reporting range of RSRP is defined from -140 dBm to -44 dBm with 1 dB resolution as shown in table below 3. RSRQ: RSRQ indicates quality of received reference signal. RSRQ measurement and calculation is based on RSRP and RSSI since RSRP determines signal quality and RSSI determines co-channel interference and noise. RSRQ formula is shown below (N represents number of resource blocks). The reporting range of RSRQ is defined from - 19.5 dB to -3 with 0.5 dB resolution 4. SINR(Signal to Interference & Noise Ratio): SINR is a measure of signal quality as well but it is not defined in the 3GPP specs but defined by the UE vendor. It is not reported to the network. SINR is used a lot by operators, and the LTE industry in general, as it better quantifies the relationship between RF conditions and Throughput. UEs typically use SINR to calculate the CQI (Channel Quality Indicator) they report to the network.
  • 13. 13 | P a g e 5. CSSR: it is the fraction of the attempts to make a call that result in a connection to the dialed number (due to various reasons not all call attempts end with a connection to the dialed number). This fraction is usually measured as a percentage of all call attempts made.
  • 14. 14 | P a g e Corporate Support The basic operation of corporate support at PTCL is to provide services to the firms which are other than those of PABX (i.e. telephone line). Hence we studied about various services of the PTCL which it has provided to corporate customers, including: 1. Business connectivity: These are economical packages for business customer to connect to the internet to share their resources or to reach their customers. 2. Business communication: These are services dealing specifically towards inter and intra Business communication as well as facilitating communication with business customers. 3. Managed Services: Managed service is the practice of outsourcing on a proactive basis management responsibilities and functions and a strategic method for improving operations and cutting expenses. PTCL provides them to firms to lower their costs and increase their efficiency. 4. Hosting Solutions: These services provide data hosting solution for corporations like establishing a data center or hosting a website Business connectivity  PTCL Enterprise DSL: PTCL Enterprise DSL is bundled product where Non-CIR DSL is provided to customer with static IP address assigned to Customer Premises Equipment (CPE). PTCL offers SKYLINK satellite communication services for domestic and international communication applications. VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) is a satellite communications system that serves home and business users. A VSAT end user needs a box that interfaces between the user's computer and an outside antenna with a transceiver. The transceiver receives or sends a signal to a satellite transponder in the sky. The satellite sends and receives signals from an earth station computer that acts as a hub for the system.  ISDN (PRI): PTCL’s Primary Rate ISDN (PRI) provides virtually unlimited number of ‘pairs’ at customer’s office which grow as your business grows. We provide 30 lines or any multiple of 30 lines and then connect you in no time. The service uses the public telephone network to carry an all-digital signal that can satisfy your voice and data communications needs in the most efficient and flexible way possible. This gives you 30-40% greater efficiency than traditional analog service. Fewer connections are required and call connection is rapid thus saving customers time and money. PTCL’s PRI service is ideal for enterprises that require simultaneous transmission of voice, data and video as well as cost effectivity.
  • 15. 15 | P a g e  ISDN (BRI): Basic Rate Interface (BRI) is a powerful tool for provisioning of different services like voice, data and image transmission over the telephone line through the telephone network. Based on ISDN technology, it is being viewed as the logical extension of the digitalization of telecommunication network. PTCL’s BRI is a digital access technology uses standard twisted pair cables and is nearly three times faster than a 56Kbps dial-up line. It also provides high quality of digital transmission and high speed data interfaces.  IP-Connect: The “IP Connect” service is based on Internet Protocol Virtual Private Networks (IP-VPN). • 21. 21 | P a g e Some of the activities performed during our tenure are recounted below: 1. Verifying and Correcting Excel Sheets During the internship at WLL, The department faced a discrepancy in their data base where the data in one spreadsheet didn’t match the data in other spreadsheet as such there was a need to verify as well as correct the two records. The screenshot is shown below: We had to check the PN number of the two sheets to verify if the information matches also we ensured that there was a difference of 168 between 2 BSC to ensure that the data was correct. Once we had to check each cell location in the south region, we filled the correct BTS with green, missing with yellow, erroneous with red and repeated reading with orange. This we later presented to the administration of the department, who appreciated our efforts. 2. Performing Static Drive test During our internship, we also performed the primary task of the WLL team that is the conduction of static and dynamic drive tests using Nemo Out door software. We were only able to perform the static drive test at PAK-Capital using Nemo outdoor software, the screenshot of which is shown below. The tools used for this were PTCL 4G (Charjee) Dongle, License card and GPS. The drive test we conducted was of PAK-Capital cell and hence gave positive results.
  • 22. 22 | P a g e 3. Monitoring Cell Performance To monitor the cell performance, we evaluated the four carrier signals of the individual cells. The four different colored signals shown above should follow the same pattern if the cell is working properly. In case there was any problem, we recorded the cell site ID and submitted the final list to the staff to be delivered to the operations team. 4. Netnuman Software to check call success ratio We used the Net Numan software which for for the ZTE vendor to monitor the call success ratio rate. The cell sites where the success ratio was less were to be examined and we picked threshold percentage to be 75% (taking into account external influences on the network), less than 75 indicated that there was some technical issue with the system. At the end of this task, we gave the report about it to the staff to be sednt o the operations team.
  • 23. 23 | P a g e 5. Software and Vendor Overview During the course of our internship, we learned about Major software used by WLL and also the Vendors with whom PTCL has agreement to purchase equipment. A brief overview of both is given below. Hardware Vendors: ZTE Corporation: It is a Chinese multinational telecommunications equipment and systems company headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong. It provides telecommunication equipment to WLL. Huawei: Huawei Technologies is a Chinese multinational networking and telecommunications equipment and services company headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong. The equipment related to 4G technology is mostly provided by Huawei to WLL Software Utilized: 1. NETNUMEN: It is specifically used for LTE KPI (key parametric indicator) monitoring and gives alarm in case of deviation. 2. CNO2: It comprises of several parametric templates which are used to check all the parameters of 1X ( voice calls) and EVIDIO 3. Huawei M-200: Primarily used for monitoring the BSC in Hyderabad in the south region. It can monitor any technology (i.e 1X, EVIDIO, LTE) and gives alarm in case of any problem or blunder by the user. 4. Nemo Outdoor and Analyzer: It is used for site monitoring and parameter analysis. The outdoor mode of Nemo can be used for on the site parameter real-time monitoring and surveillance. 5. • 24. 24 | P a g e 6. Making KML to show cell sites on google Earth KML (Keyhole Markup Language) is an XML based file format used to display geographic data in an Earth browser such as Google Earth, Google Maps, and Google Maps for mobile. With KML, you can display pretty much everything on a map. You can either email it to friends or you can upload it to Google Maps (Google My Maps feature) and share it with everyone. But best of all, you can upload the file to an online host, and use the KMLs to be displayed on any of your custom maps (i.e on your blogs, websites, etc). This way, you can customize the maps' look & feel and its behavior to suit your needs. WLL uses KML files to place the location of their cell sites on the map, hence one of our tasks was to develop a KML file to learn how the management of the cell-sites is carried out. We places all the coordinates in the Google earth software to obtain a KML file showing all some of the cell site location in the South region of PTCL and their respective coordinates. The file we later showed to the staff, along with the marks on the map
  • 25. 25 | P a g e 7. Understanding the Basic LTE system Our very first task at WLL was to understand the LTE system as in how it works. • 32. 32 | P a g e Conclusion and Recommendation for PTCL The deployment at PTCL has given us a very keen insight into the workings of PTCL and telecommunications industry in the country. If, in the future, we try to pursue a career at PTCL or any other telecommunication industry, we would have a solid background to start with, being equipped with both the basic technical as well as engineering skills commonly utilized in the industry. The internship program of PTCL was perfectly planned and executed and there is very little room for improvement. However, we have few suggestions which we believe would be useful for PTCL including:  There should be a Booklet detailing the departments and tasks performed by every respective department of PTCL so that interns have proper knowledge of various organs of PTCL prior to their joining.  A job description like contract should be given to interns prior to their joining so that interns are entirely clear about their tasks, obligations and leverages that internship position has for them.  Exchanging or switching their PTCL department should be easy for the interns as per their own feasibility of reaching Overall, we believe that the aim of Corporate Responsibility which the PTCL wished to pursue via this internship by edification and exposure of university students has been fully achieved via this internship and Interns are now better equipped with technical as well as corporate skills. All the experience attained with this would be indispensable in our future success.
