The Pythagorean theorem states that in a right triangle, the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides. It was developed by the Greek philosopher Pythagoras. The theorem allows for calculating the length of any side of a right triangle if the other two sides are known. Examples demonstrate using the theorem to find the missing hypotenuse or leg when given the other two sides.
