Q was first published in October 1986, setting
itself apart from much of the other music
press with monthly production and higher
standards of photography and printing. In the
early years, the magazine was sub-titled "The
modern guide to music and more". Originally it
was to be called Cue (as in the sense of
cueing a record, ready to play), but the name
was changed so that it wouldn't be mistaken
for a snooker magazine.

“Q” also thought that a single letter title would stand out more
against other magazines when displayed in newsstands.
Bauer Media Group is a multinational media company headquartered in
Hamburg, Germany which operates in 15 countries worldwide. Since the
company was founded in 1875, it has been privately owned and under
management by the Bauer family.
Worldwide circulation of Bauer Media Group's
magazine titles amounts to 38 million magazines a
week.
Bauer Media Group has a 50% stake in the
British television company Box Television,
the other half owned by Channel 4. These
include popular music television channels
such as: Q TV, 4 Music, Kiss TV and
Kerrang! TV

Bauer offices are located all over the world, im countries such as:
Germany, USA, Spain, France, Austria, Poland, China, Russia, Mexico,
Hungary, Portugal, UK, Nigeria, Russia, Slovakia and Czech Republic.
Q is the magazine that brings music alive. It draws together the biggest stars,
the most exciting phenomena, the new artists that matter and a healthy dose of
irreverence to create an unmissable widescreen picture of what’s really
happening in rock and roll right now.

Every issue features agenda-setting star interviews, the month’s biggest
moments in music, and fascinating investigations into the wider world of rock
and roll. Each month Q’s comprehensive reviews section gives the last word on
all the most important new releases and reissues – and feeds Q’s readers’
hunger for new music to enjoy.

Q’s reviews section is the ultimate critical overview of music. And magazine’s
unrivalled access brings its readers up close and personal with the stars who
set the agenda. Q is the ultimate rock and roll read.
“Q” is targeted at audiences from 18+ who are interested in popular Rock and
Roll bands and have a keen interest in upcoming bands/ artists. The social
demographics of “Q” readers will be

The Q Awards are the UK's annual music
awards run by the music magazine Q. Since
they began in 1990, the Q Awards have become
one of Britain's biggest and best publicised
music awards. Locations for the awards
ceremony include Abbey Road Studios and,
more recently, The Park Lane Ballroom.

One of the more notable event of the awards
was the ceremony of 2004, at which Elton John
accused Madonna of cheating fans by miming
on stage, after she had been nominated for a
Best Live Act award.

The Q Awards are notable for including numerous awards recognising a lifetime of
achievement, rather than achievements over the year in question. In recent years,
the 'lifetime' awards have usually outnumbered the 'current' awards

Q has numerous other media outlets that subscribers can use to be
updated with the latest music trends, styles, member, videos- you name it!
This is a good investment from Q magazine as many people have different
                            media preferences.
As we can see from Q magazine’s rate card, advertisements within a magazine are
extremely expensive and there are multiple printing options to choose from.
The Media pack for Q magazine informs the
audience of everything included in the
magazine with headlines on each page such as:

•What is Q?
•Typical Q reader description
•Why Advertise
•Editor’s comments
•Brand extensions
•Influence
•Case Study
•Business
•Contact information
“Q” Magazine created a USP for it’s magazine- on the spine of every issue there is a
different message. Readers then try to work out what the message has to do with the
contents of the magazine. This practise- known as the “Spine-line” has since become
commonplace among British lifestyle magazines, including “Q’s” sister publication,
“Empire” and the football monthly “FourFourTwo”. The most recent edition of Q that I
have purchased reads “POTATO CHIPS” on the spine and I’m still reading to find out
what it’s about!
GLASTONBURY- Q has a uniquely close relationship with the world’s greatest music
festival that stretches back to the early 90s. Every year Q produces Glastonbury’s
Official Souvenir Review live on the festival site.

Rolling Stone is a US-based magazine published every two weeks which
is devoted to music, liberal politics, and popular culture. In 1967, Rolling
Stone was founded in San Francisco, California, by Jann Wenner ‒ who
is still the magazine's chief editor ‒ and music critic, Ralph J. Gleason.

The first issue carried a cover date of November 9,
1967. Rolling Stone magazine, named after the
Muddy Waters song "Rollin' Stone" (1950), was
initially identified with and reported on the hippie
counterculture of the era.

In the very first edition of the magazine, Wenner wrote that Rolling Stone "is
not just about the music, but about the things and attitudes that music
embraces." This has become the de facto motto of the magazine.
Jann Simon Wenner (born January 7, 1946) is the co-founder and
publisher of the music and politics biweekly Rolling Stone, as well as the current
owner of Men's Journal and Us Weekly magazines. Wenner Media LLC is the
official company that produces Rolling Stone

In 1967, Wenner and Gleason founded Rolling Stone in San Francisco. To get
the magazine off the ground, Wenner borrowed $7,500 from family members and
from the family of his soon-to-be wife, Jane Schindelheim. In the summer
following the start of the magazine, Wenner and Schindelheim were married in a
small Jewish ceremony.
Spring 2012 Results

Age 18- 2,984 25.5% Which means...

7,173 of one seasons readers were male!

Age 35-44 2,448 20.9%
Age 45-54 1,890 16.1%
Age 55+ 1,331 11.4%

    Median age: 34.4

This means the magazine has to carefully appeal to both
sexes whilst ensuring they prioritize their predominantly
                     male readership!
This year , the Rolling Stone awards were held
in Sydney , Australia! Here are a list of some of
2013’s winners:
•The Rolling Stone Award: Michael Gudinski
•Best Independent Release: Chet Faker, Thinking In Textures
•Actor of the Year: Ben Mendelsohn, Killing Them Softly
•International Act of the Year: Jack White
•Album of the Year: Tame Impala, Lonerism
•Live Act of the Year: Parkway Drive
•Single of the Year (Readers’ Choice):The Presets, “Ghost”
Best New Talent : The Medics
•Music Video of the Year: Gotye, “Easy Way Out” (directed by
 Darcy Prendergast)

                              The winners were
                              celebrated in the March
                              issue of Rolling Stone that
                              went on sale February 6th!
This is a screen-grab taken directly from the Rolling Stone website just to show
how they promote their media outlets at the bottom of every webpage, with their
icons, enabling readers to recognise them straight away.

Rolling Stone also has numerous other media outlets that subscribers can
use to be updated with their latest news! Personally I think Youtube is a
wonderful outlet to have as many people like to watch interviews and live
                                     music!
These figures show the different rates
assigned by Rolling Stone magazine in
2012. These figures have very likely changed for 2013 and in taking an educated
guess I would conclude that these prices would have risen significantly.
