Editor's Notes

  • #3: You don’t have to go over each and every name’s meaning here. The purpose of this slide is just to attract the attention of the students. If you need, here are the meanings, though. Fatma: woman who stops breastfeeding her child, Ayşe: a person living in peace, Emine: trustworthy, Hatice: a baby girl who was born before her time, Zeynep: valuable stones, Ali: supreme, Huseyin: little beloved person, Hasan: beautiful, Ibrahim: father of the faithful, Ismail: the one who hears his God.
  • #4: Picture 1: Did they choose it from the calendar? Picture 2: Did they choose it from the dictionary? Pictures 3 & 4: Did they name you after a celebrity?
  • #5: Set a time limit before starting the activity. Walk around while the students are talking to make sure that they are talking in English. If you hear any mistakes, take notes of them discreetly. When the time is over, ask students about their friends’ stories and the meanings of their names. Finally, go over the mistakes with the class, without giving out names.
  • #6: Repeat the previous cycle with these questions. When they finish and report to the whole class, continue with the next activity in the next slide.
  • #7: Depending on your class level, set a time limit before they start talking. When they finish and go back to their seats, ask them about their findings. (This part is a whole class activity.)
