About
• abbreviation Quick Response Code
• two-dimensional barcode
• first is designed for the automotive
industry in Japan 1994
• Denso Wave, the inventor of QR Code
• purpose: to track vehicles during
manufacturing
More about QR Codes…
• … consist of black (the most frequently used
colour) squares arranged in a square grid on a
white background
• … can be read using smartphones, tablets,
laptops and dedicated QR reading devices
• … link directly to articles, emails, websites, phone
numbers, videos, social media pages…
• You need a camera lens on your device and a QR
code scanning programme which can be
downloaded online for free as an app.
source: Wikipedia
Features
• High capacity encoding of data – capable of
handling several dozen to several hundred
times more information, can encode cca 3.000
alphanumeric characters
• Small printout size
• Dirt and damage resistant
• Readable from any direction in 360°
• The symbol versions of QR Code range from
Version 1 to Version 40.
• Each version has a different module
configuration or number of modules.
• Free QR Code Reader App
• Free QR Code Generator

• The 11 Best QR Code Reader Apps for Android,
iPhone, Windows Phone & BlackBerry (2016)
https://uqr.me/blog/best-qr-code-readers/
• 40 Interesting Ways to use QR Codes in the
Classroom
http://bit.ly/usingqrcodes40
Types of Uses
• Many ways of using QR Codes
• Using at home (in our daily life) and at work
(various business purposes at factories and in
logistics operations)
• In 2012 QR Codes was awarded with a Good
Design Award, an award from a design
promotion initiative sponsored by the Japan
Institute of Design Promotion, a public
interest incorporated foundation.
QR Codes in Education
• digital society
• technology in schools
• a lot of students have their own mobile
phones
• they also often have access to laptops and
computers in school
• they can read QR codes in seconds
Save time and save a tree
simultaneously
• QR codes can hold cca 3.000 (7.000)
characters of information.
• Instead of printing out a long web article to
your students, QR codes could give them
direct and instantaneous access to the same
resource in class or at home.
Data types
Very easy to generate
• To create a QR code, you only need to copy
and paste data into your QR generating
software.
• Once you have produced your code, you can
then transfer it to your teaching resource, or
simply leave it on the interactive whiteboard
for students to scan in class.
• QR Codes can be printed on virtually anything:
paper, textile, walls…
Examples
• Worksheets for students
• Access for listening materials and sources
(language teachers)
• General information about school
• Information for parents
• Research projects
• In library – book reviewers, info about books,
literature, publications etc.
More ideas
• Quick tutorials
• Instructions
• Create resumes
• Show exemplars
• Give tasks and homeworks
• Check Answers and Reflect
• Vote
• Compile Research
More ideas
• Treasure hunt
• QR Stations for self-directed learning
• Assistive Technology
• Multimedia content e.g. the periodic table is
replaced with QR codes; each code links to a
YouTube video discussing the element in
question
• Some inventive ideas for using the latest
scanning technology for learning.

education-mary-beth-hertz
QR Codes Padlet
• Feel free to post on common Padlet the QR
code of your own school page or your blog or
something yours
Make Your Classroom Greener
• Save a few trees and go green!
• Don’t print! Make and use QR Codes!

Editor's Notes

  • #5: Like Pixel games – every part, every square has some meaning and information – some code, some date
  • #7: - The pattern - QR Code reader will be able to read data
  • #8: There is no right direction No meaning for simple users. Just to note yourself. If you’ll see different QR Codes. The module refers to the black and white dots that make up QR Code. "Module configuration" refers to the number of modules contained in a symbol, commencing with Version 1 (21 × 21 modules) up to Version 40 (177 × 177 modules). Each higher version number comprises 4 additional modules per side.
  • #9: - And many more… - There is, also, readers and generator for paid - Same QR codes, but in different colours
  • #10: - Even in short version (the second link) the URL is too long for wrinting
  • #11: QR Codes are contributing to making a variety of our activities both at home and at work convenient. It can be used in our daily life not only for printed matters such as fliers and name cards but also as a payment system. It can also be used for various business purposes at factories and in logistics operations. Since QR Codes are now used in such a wide variety of ways, they have now become an indispensable tool in our lives. This high functionality on a par with our way of living and its design quality are valued publicly, and in 2012 it was awarded a Good Design Award, an award from a design promotion initiative sponsored by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion, a public interest incorporated foundation.
  • #13: - The number depends on the tool
  • #15: - Skin also
  • #17: - More ideas using QR Codes in the classroom: - Great voting tool -  “QR codes can be a great voting tool allowing students to vote by simply scanning the code as they enter or exit the classroom.”
  • #18: Scanning a QR code makes is easier for the younger students so they don’t have to type the long urls. “… have the students become self-directed learners by creating QR stations. The students scan the QR code to reveal the task and the students must work together to get the task complete. This builds on the 21st century skills of communication, collaboration and critical thinking.” “Provide an alternative access format for students who need additional support in reading and writing.” Students can quickly access information while using their own literacy support apps or software.
  • #20: https://padlet.com/natasa_ljk/l92m5ss8eb0n
  • #21: At the end! Rather than giving students the time-worn paper handout, provide a QR code that accesses instructions, announcements, or assignments. Use one page of QR codes to displace multiple handouts, or use codes on-screen to eliminate paper entirely!
