Learning objectives To be able to draw a quadratic graph To be able to solve quadratic equations from the graph
Input y = x ² + 3x - 5 When x is 0, what is y? When x is 1, what is y? When x is -1, what is y? How else could we organise this?
y = x ² + 3x - 5 Draw a table for x and y Use x from 3 to -6. Fill in values for y. Plot the points on your graph and join up to make a smooth curve. What is the minimum point? Estimate the solution to x ² + 3x – 5 = 0 Input
Activity Exercise 23A,  page 382
Demonstrate Here is the graph of y = 2x ² + x -3 Write down an estimate of it’s minimum point Write down an estimate of the solution to  2x ² + x -3 = 3
Review/ Plenary Write in your book three things you need to remember about today’s lesson Write down one thing you are not clear about and would like to go over again Finally, write down a number from 1-5 suggesting how well you met the learning objective.
