Editor's Notes

  • #2: When researching there are four methods to use. These are quantitative, qualitative, mixed and action. By using one or a combination will help with your paper research. The main ones this slide will talk about is quantitative , qualitative and mixed. I hope this slide helps and is interesting.
  • #3: Researching is done often to find different information for different things. It is important that you do effective research so that the topic you are researching will have all the information that is needed to bring forth to your client or to an audience , to show how well informed that you are and how the topic can help. I would be hopefully that all information would correlate with what your hypothesis would be. You should include information even if it may become negative anoints what you hope to see accomplished. The reason for this is not a fail, but a way to further research for ways to solve the negative and bring in a positive outcome. There are many research topics that may not fair well, it is a process of working out details and trying to solve problems that may arise. Research methods use data collection and data analysis. Research philosophy assumes which are clarified through research (Dudovskiy, 2015). Two of these are quantitative and qualitative research. Positivism has an objective approach and relies on facts and quantitative data (Dudovskiy, 2015). Phenomenology is subjective to human interest and focuses on meanings and not data (Dudovskiy, 2015). Research approach uses inductive and deductive approaches. Research design uses explorative and conclusive means. This means that deductive is done by eliminating the research that does not apply or fit. Inducing is using the research that does fit. Explorative research is research done that has not been recorded, you are exploring the research and findings. Conclusive are research that has been recorded but can be used to further your research topic. Data collections are primary ( never been recorded or researched) and secondary which have been researched and recorded.
  • #4: There are four types of research; action, mixed, qualitative and quantitative research. This slide will mainly be about qualitative and quantitative research. Data collections : Primary are qualitative, uses motives and generalizations, where as, quantitative uses variables. These will be divided on the next two slides. The information used was from John Dodovskiy’s 2015, Research Methods, that explain these in detail. In some ways this would be like discussing couples and the temperature gage. One will think it is hot enough, while the other will think it is cold. You could make a hypothesis on this, however, you can not make a conclusive statement. The conclusive statement would have to be couples see the temperature differently from each other. This would have to remain, because each person sees it differently and you can not tell one or the other they are wrong. However, if you did a group research it may become different as some men will agree with woman , while some woman will agree with the opposite men. You data would have t change to, why is this an issue, is this weight? Immunity to cold? What they are wearing? So some research can end up dead ended. (Didovskiy, 2015)
  • #5: Qualitative research uses methods of non-numerical date. The data collection come in 4 collection primary, secondary third and forth. Primary are researches that have not been done before(Trochim,2006). Theses use motives, and generalization, they are based on individuals, interpret the primary data and use characteristics. They use words, images and transcripts, and the forth uses analysis and words. This is done through role play, games, focus groups, interviews, observations and case studies (Dudovskiy, 2015). Qualitative uses description, like open- ended questions, unstructured interviews, and unstructured observations. In Law they did a Stafford experiment where student role played prisoners and guards. This was to see how they took their positions seriously. It was not a very good outcomes as those who portrayed officers became brutal. This is much like abuse cases where mental, emotional and financial abuse in woman are hard to prove, because there is no real evidence. In time observing them from the beginning to the end, one can observe the effects it has had on them (McLeod, 2008).
  • #6: Quantitative research uses data research as well published and non-published. They use variables and is universal. They use mean, median, and mode of data.( Hohmann, 2005) Quantitative uses numbers ( quantitative- quantity) and specific measurements. There are bar graphs, tables, and pies. Quantitative uses correlation, analysis, and regression analysis (Dudovskiy, 2015). Quantitative uses numerical information, these would include numerical form, categories, rank order, measurements in units. These units include experiments, questionnaires and observation. (McLeod, 2008)
  • #7: Two other research method are action and mixed. Action just means studies that have been done, and mixed is a combination of two or more research methods. These are used in cases where the research has failed to come up wit a solution. It would need to be re-examined to see where information needs to be changed. Like a formula to create perfume, or creating a design, sometimes the out come just does not work right. The whole thing needs to be evaluated and changed to find a solution to what your research is looking for.
  • #8: The steps to use would be basic research topic, deciding on which research method you will use, and research the proper data. You need a hypothesis. The information should be an interesting topic for one to use as it may be long, and the more interest one has the more in depth they will research to find all information they need to know. The research may have information to correlate to you hypothesis or it may not be sufficient enough. This point you would need to reevaluate what you have done make changes and start all over.
  • #9: Method of recommendation would be a mixed one. This would be because with a mixed research you would a variety of information. These may include negative research, but it would be much more informative that to use just one method. To use the negative, you would be unbiased in the information you are providing. Than you could research further to see why the negative and perhaps find a solution to make the negative into a positive. These would be called Positivism and Interpretivism. To use this method, you could better shut out the negativity before it begins. It would be a conclusive cut and dry. The loopholes, many miss, would be closed.
  • #10: Mixed research would have so much information and as long as you kept it organized it should be an advantage. There should be complete information, it should not seem like it is one sided and include Questionnaires (not leading the answers) surveys, interviews, journals, studies done, statistics, research, and experiments, as well as experiences from you own research and evidence seen hands on. For an example: I have horses and I already know the affects of horse riding with the handicap. I want to do a proven research on this topic to help those who have been hurt mentally, physically, and emotionally, to improve their lives. I already know the horses have saved me. I need to write my own findings. I have had a student, with MS, ride and have seen with my own eyes how she transforms in minutes after riding. I unfortunately, never took pictures, as I was watching and teaching. I can write about my observations, but I would need more information , like studies, statistics, and information to see why this helps heal. I have the Wounded Warriors project that uses dogs and horses for wounded warriors. ( this would be the connection they may develop and the trust and bonds created) If one doesn’t like animals this may not work, depends on the patience and determination of the animal. Second chances such as Bethlehem takes abused women from prison and horse rescued from the racetrack to help heal both. This is also done, with Pitbulls and Paroles, and made into a series. These can be used as research because it shows the development and those people testify how they have changed. In any program or idea there is space for improvement. The more people you have involved will bring your qualitative and quantitative to play. They are both important. For the success of any given research project. While building a house, you do not use, just one form of material. You want quality wood as well as quantity wood to make the process work. You would first have to explain, what the person you are building for, is looking for, research to find people who can develop, measure and draw. You could build without measuring, but it may not be square. You would need tools. Electric or manual? See where I am going? The more information and research you use and methods already used in trial and error the les time you waste on what will not work, and more time getting a completed project everyone should be happy with. Research on types of wood, grains, and what they are used for .. Etc.
  • #11: In summary, it would be a very good idea to used a mixed research method. You would cover more based using the mixed research and could only help the research. The ideal is to narrow the topic to a certain group ( or individual) and asked controlled questions, like what is your name ( normally it would be a one answer). Date of birth is another one. Lawyers use these methods in trials. They only allow one answer, which may not always be a yes or no, perhaps one area the law needs to improve on. Who is your mother? What year did you graduate? These are question with a normal one answer possibility. ( Creswell, 2014)
