Question 7 done
- 1. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? Looking back at our preliminary task I think I have learnt new and key elements during the process of making our product. New and key elements that I have learnt whilst making our product were filming, editing, finding our target audience, planning, camera shots, location and establishing the genre. For our first draft of our preliminary task I have noticed that our match on action shots were not very neat and clear, this is because of our editing skills. I started to learn how to use final cut pro and was only able to trim and put clips together. looking back at our first draft of our preliminary task I think that I have learnt more skills into editing because now I am able to use certain tools to make the footage look more clear and better, an example of this would be fading in-between clips to show that time has passed. Also since our preliminary task I have learnt how to add titles through live type and I also learnt how to add logo's through motion. Looking back at the preliminary task I think I have learnt more on filming because some of the framing was not suitable for what we wanted to portray, an example of this would be we wanted both our characters to have a casual conversation but our shot being over a characters shoulder was too high and portrayed the other character to look vulnerable. Since the preliminary task I have learnt how to have steady shots, panning and framing, I learnt to edit and crop shots to make them look clear and neat. Also an element that I have learnt since the preliminary task is our camera shots, when filming for our second preliminary task we had difficulties with the match on action shot because we wanted the character to be walking around the corner and this was difficult to edit together. Since then my editing skills have improved, I have learnt how to trim and edit clips together on final cut pro so they don't jump. Furthermore I think after the preliminary task I have done more research on certain audiences especially for our genre, an example of this would be when I researched crime genre films on IMDB and had come up with demographics of age, gender and social groups that were more attracted to crime drama. I have learnt since the preliminary task that audience is key because you want to attract the certain audience that would be suitable for you film and I done this by researching on our genre. Another element that I have learnt during the progression to our final product from the preliminary task is planning, I noticed that when planning for our preliminary task we had a idea of what we were going to do, who our characters were going to be also what days we were going to film and writing our script, this wasn't so hard during the preliminary task because it was short, however when filming our final product we managed to come up with an idea of what the narrative would be but trying to fit our filming around our characters was difficult because if one character wasn't in then it would be hard to film without them also writing a script and making sure our characters learned there lines and learnt who their characters are. I have learnt that when planning and scheduling dates for filming, you have to make sure everyone can attend and when writing a script making sure the character know and understand the role they are playing.

Also I have learnt how to establish the genre of the opening, for example in our preliminary task we saw that our genre was not clear, since the preliminary task I have done more research of the genre for our film opening and notice that the genre is established in the beginning so we made the mise en scene a crime scene to establish the genre for the audience. I have also learnt that location is important since the preliminary task, when we were doing the second preliminary task I have noticed that our location was next to a wall and doing a shot of the camera being over the characters shoulder was difficult. For our film opening we wanted our location to fit with the mise en scene and make sure we obeyed the 180 degree rule. I had learnt that you need a good location that will fit with your mise en scene and genre. To conclude I think that we were able to produce a well final product as we gradually learnt more along the way since our preliminary task from filming, editing, finding our target audience, planning, camera shots, location and establishing the genre. We gradually took steps to get our final product to be the way we wanted it.
