 To Introduce Lesson- by establishing rapport with students and know the status of
previous knowledge
 To Develop Lesson- by asking questions related to their daily life/observations and
new sub topic.
 To Create Learning Environment- by asking relevant questions about their learning
experiences.
 For Active Participation of students-by taking examples from students and getting
involved in demonstrations.
 To assess the status of learning- by asking comprehension questions
 Make learner thoughtful- by asking their point of view
 Increasing critical awareness- by giving them new situation to solve
 Problem solving- by judging their actual problem.
 Curiosity- by making them more curious about the environment.
 Make learning Interesting and accurate- by creating interest through questions and
get focussed on main topic.
 Introductory questions: To introduce a lesson we need this.These questions should
have logical sequencing and based on previous knowledge.
 Developmental questions: These questions are very helpful to develop your lesson.
Shifting one sub-topic to another these questions fill the gap and maintain the
motivation and interest among students.
 Probing questions:these questions have following types-
1-Seeking further information – Ex.What more can you add to your response ?
2-Prompting – Ex.Teacher : How is blood purified in lungs ?
Student : I do not know.
Teacher : Can you tell what happens to the oxygen we inhale?
Student : It is filled in the lungs.
Teacher :What happens to the haemoglobin which is present in the blood capillaries in
lungs ? (giving hints and prompts).
Refocussing- Ex. In what way it is similar to ?
Redirecting- Ex.Teacher:What were the reasons for the out break of plague in the
mid of 1994 ?
Student : No response
Teacher : Sarla (redirecting)
Student : Due to rats
Teacher :Was there anything regarding unhygienic condition ?
(prompting) Neeta ? (redirecting)
 3- Comprehension questions:To know the knowledge status of student.
 4- Evaluation questions :To evaluate the acquired knowledge.
 Speed
 Voice
 Pause
 Style
 Relevance
 Precision
 Clarity
 Grammatically correct
 Simple & clear
 Accurate
 Single dimensional
 Proper Language
 Relevant
 Thoughtful
 Avoid direct questions
 Level of question according to the level of students
 Maintain Interest and participation
 Low order questions
 Middle order questions
 Higher order questions
 Follow-up questions
 Low order- "Define the feeling of patriotism in your own words".
 Medium order- What is the central idea of the poem ?
 Higher order - How does smoke pollute the air?
 Follow up questions- any probing questions ( discussed earlier slide)
