This document describes the rabbit ileal loop test procedure used to study the mechanisms of action of E.coli and other enterotoxins. The key steps are:
1) Ligated intestinal loops are created in a rabbit's small intestine.
2) Bacterial suspensions or toxins are injected into the loops.
3) After 18 hours, the loops are examined for fluid accumulation and tissue damage, and the loop fluids are analyzed.
