This document provides an overview of refugee camp design and its impact on refugee safety. It discusses how refugee camps are intended to be temporary shelters but have become long-term homes for many refugees. The design and layout of camps can influence opportunities for violence, as overcrowding and lack of resources are common issues. The document examines camp characteristics and security measures through case studies of three Syrian refugee camps: Al Za'atari, Domiz, and Kilis Oncupinar. It aims to understand how camp design has influenced refugee safety and what strengths and weaknesses are shown in responses to the Syrian refugee crisis.
