It is a systematic evaluation of an individual with respect to
performance on the job and individual’s potential for
development
Rating Scale Method
• The rating scale method is a performance
appraisal method that rates employees
according to using evaluators records their
judgments about performance on a scale .
The scale includes several categories;
normally 5 to 7 members, defined by
objectives such as outstanding, meets
expectation, or need improvement.
Rating scale method
• Critical Incident method is a
performance appraisal method that
requires keeping written records of
highly favourable and unfavourable
employees work actions.
Critical Incident method
• Performance appraisal method in
which the rater writes a brief
narrative describing the employee’s
performance.
Essay Method
• Which compares each employee’s
performance to a predetermined
standard or expected level of output.
Work Standards Method
• In which the rater places all
employees from a group in order of
overall performance.
Ranking Method
Forced Distribution Method
• in which the rater is required to
assign individuals in a workgroup to
a limited number of categories,
similar to a normal frequency
distribution.
Behaviourally Anchored
Rating scale Method
• Performance appraisal method that
combines elements of the traditional
rating scale and critical incident
methods; various performance levels
are shown along a scale with each
described in terms of an employee’s
specific job behavior.
Checklist Method
• Checklist method contains a list of
statement on the basis of whish the
rater describes the on job
performance of the employees.
