This document provides observations and reflections from an aging American baby boomer. In 3 sentences: The author recalls enjoying math and science as a student but struggling with writing. As a product of television culture, the boomer generation was primed to be "ace procrastinators." Nearing the end of middle age, the author feels his personal definitions and understanding of life are in turmoil, as he suspects many others of his generation experience as well.

- 1. Observations (based on Recollections and reflections) by one American Baby Boomer Here I sit, attempting to place thoughts in a string of interesting words. Writer's block, I always seem to have a bad case of it. It doesn't matter what activity that I attempt, writer's block always occurs in some shape or form. I will attempt to title my observations and then write my recollections and reflections that shaped my conclusions. In my school years, mathematics, physics, formulas were my favorite subjects. Just give me the facts, I never appreciated the art of writing. I like things neat and compact, to the point. See Ted run. Sally likes Boots. Simple, factual, straight forward. Right or wrong. Black and white. Good and evil. Never mind that Ted has a peg leg, or Boots is a dildo instead of a cat. Thank goodness there are people with different ideas. I have no clear cut idea of the meaning of this life. Nearly two weeks have slipped away since I started this obsession to self expression. So why is such a private man like myself attempting such an obsession? Oh well, does it really matter if I write this hapless document? I'm just such a bore and an ace procrastinator. Maybe I should just abort this project and jump across the room to the new computer and consume my time playing "Free Cell", bridge and hearts. What a time era for an ace procrastinator to live! I guess my generation was primed to become ace procrastinators by being the first generation weened on the boob tube. We were varied well entertained compared to our forefathers. I could blame the television industry for my lack of writing skills, but that would just be an excuse for myself. In my youth I felt that if you could be understood, that was adequate. Needless to say that I did not recognize the complexities of communications. Now I recognize the complexities, but I still have no clue how to overcome them. I apologize for my lack of skills. I am probably your average American male nearly completing a half century of life. I am a direct offspring from "America's Greatest Generation." Depending on your stage of life, I could be your child, brother, husband, parent, grandparent. I could be a neighbor, co-worker or some stranger visiting your community. I am and I always have been a simple man. A wage earner that wanted nothing more than the simple pleasures of life. Clean dry warm shelter, food, and close companionship to observe the kaleidescope of this world is all I ever desired. At this moment of time, it is the Holiday Season of 2001, my personal filtering definitions for life experiences are in a torrent tangled mess. I suspect that there are many other individuals that are experiencing the same type of mind boggling mess. Statistics are a wonderful tool. You can gather the information on any particular group or groups of items and then draw conclusions and stereotype the group or groups. Depending on information and the definition of the type information gathered, statistics can stereotype a group in about any matter that you would like to stereotype a group of items. We all stereotype in a statistically manner. The individual's experience and environment greatly influences the type of information and the filtering definitions used to set the individual's opinions, even the opinion of the individual's self.
- 2. Time stands still in our minds as it presses on. Wise men say, "The past is done. It can not be changed. Move on." But, changes are as natural as the passing seasons. We accumulate more information and we constantly slightly modify our filtering definitions. No two people will have exactly the same opinions on any one subject at anyone time. Again, I have a wife that loves me for what I was and what I have become. Considering the circumstances, I have four wonderful adult children. I should be one of the happiest people on earth for I am a simple man. But, I cannot forget the past. It may be done, but it is not gone. It is the essence of myself. I am an American, a worker, a baby boomer. I have enjoyed good times and I look forward to better times. Stated observations and opinions by an individual are basically useless and unheeded, unless the audience really knows the individual. Therefore I will torture and bore myself to write a brief account of my life for the beginning chapters of this work. I will close my self introduction with a little ditty that must of been given to me, back in August 1997, by some higher life form. I the American working boomer, Once I flew with eagles. Now I wait to slither with earthworms, Although I still intake breaths of life. Born under the reign of Truman. Raised under the giants of Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Johnson. Awaken under Nixon, Ford, and Carter. Broken under Reagan and Bush. Buried by Hillary and Billary Clinton? Please Lord, reincarnate Harry S. Amen
