The RCAAP project aims to promote visibility and access to Portuguese scientific output by developing an open access repository and related services. It provides a central portal and repository, institutional repository hosting through the SARI service, and tools for tracking publisher policies and advocating for open access. Usage has grown substantially since starting in 2008, with over 45,000 documents and 32 repositories now included. Future plans include expanding to scientific data and journals, as well as digital preservation. Key factors in its success are a collaborative governance model and service approach, and participation across Portuguese institutions.
