Challenge: Getting Event Data Streams Under Control • 90% of the time, the customer did not have a single unified construct for what they wanted to do with monitoring • Though SmartCloud Monitoring (ITM) was in the picture, different agents are collecting different types of data • 90-95% of the time, the customer was not leveraging the full capabilities of the Tivoli toolset 4

- 9. Let’s get to work: I’m telling “MOM” (OMNIbus) • The Tivoli EIF Probe is our primary vehicle for getting events from ITM into Netcool OMNIbus for event management • The Tivoli Probe rules file component of the probe is used to manipulate the data being sent to it by ITM 8

Let’s apply some logical thought: Recommendations • Recommendation/Consideration #3 – Event Management Using the Rules file from Tivoli/EIF (and most OMNIbus probes, the events can be modified to have a prefix, suffix that promotes a common format once they enter into the OMNibus ObjectServer) 11
