Reflection on Planning Process
My planning process went quite well I think. There were a few documents that took longer to produce than what I thought. For example the diary and calendar PowerPoint document did not work to upload onto slide share first.
I did my mock ups of my music magazine in publisher, but then produced the real magazine in ‘inDesign’ and the photos that was included was taken by my sister. She was in all my photos were she was the star that, that; magazine was going to be focused on the most. The photos were all taken in my house. Two photos (the front over and the contents page) was taken with a backdrop and lighting. The reason for this was because they where close-ups of her so no special background was required.
My mood board was quite easy to make because I knew what I wanted to include in my music magazine. I was all insured by Vogue magazine so I wanted all formal and classic look.
Therefore, I wanted only a few colours (about 3) so that the magazine photo would be in the same theme and colour scale as the text colours. I know that vogue is a fashion magazine but I thought of doing my music magazine to a more formal and fashion looking music magazine. The layout would be in the same style as vogue but the contents are all about music. The reason for this is because my research results showed that most people within my niche target audience preferred to buy fashion magazines rather than music magazines. Therefore if I was to produce a fashion looking magazine and then include music the audience may become more interested as if suits their style better.
I also did two flat plans of what my music magazine would look like if the whole magazine was produced. I did this is PowerPoint as I could make different slides for the two different plans.
My masthead and typography was quite easy to choose as I knew that all my fonts had to be formal looking as the whole magazine would be in that category. Therefore I used a font close to Vogues and Elles magazine. Also the contents page has a similar look to vogues. The double page spread is also written in a mode of formal register, yet colloquial so that the audience reads a formal column but easy enough for them to understand (as in a conversational tone.)
