Year 7 – Rendering
Starter
Describe how you could make a drawing more pleasing to look at.
Year 7 – Rendering
Learning objective
How to make a drawing aesthetically pleasing
Learning outcome
That you are able to demonstrate render a series of shapes using a
single tone, three tone and / or gradient render and describe how
the technique of rendering.
Year 7 – Rendering
Level 3 rendering is inconsistent with a few white gaps and clear
indications of where rendering has taken place. There is some change
in the tone of rendering showing a light direction. Describe how you
created this rendering sample.
Level 4 rendering is consistent to an adequate standard with only a few
indications of the direction of rendering. There is a clear direction of
light on the three dimensional object being rendered. Explain how this
technique was created.
Level 5 rendering is to a high standard showing no indication of the
direction of rendering. A clear light source is visible on the three
dimensional object and rendering is consistently good on all three
sides. Investigated why this technique might be used.

Year 7 – Single tone render
Next to your single tone render describe how you completed this
technique. What did you do to ensure that the tone was even.
Year 7 – Three tone render

Year 7 – Three tone render
Next to your three tone render describe how you completed this
technique. What did you do to ensure that the tone was even and
indicated that there was a light source.
Year 7 – Gradient render

Year 7 – Gradient render
Next to your gradient render describe how you completed this
technique. What did you do to ensure that the tone was even and
that the colour started to fade.

For the rendering techniques you have completed today come up
with five basic rules when rendering a shape.

Texture rendering
Year 7 – Textures
Starter
Scenario
If you were drawing a design of a product that was to be made
using a variety of materials how might you show this on a product?
Year 7 – Textures
Learning objective
How to represent different textures using simple graphics
equipment
Learning outcome
That you are able to represent three different materials
accurately by rendering them evenly and consistently and explain
how these can be created.

Level 3 texture rendering has a limited representation of the material being
described, texture details are visible with limited accuracy. Rendering is
inconsistent with white gaps and a clear direction of rendering. Describe how
you created this texture.
Level 4 texture rendering is a fair representation of the material being
described, texture details are clear and fairly accurately drawn. Rendering is
kept within the lines and shows some indication of a light source. Explain how
this technique was created.
Level 5 texture rendering is representative of the material being drawn, texture
details are clear and accurately drawn. Rendering is accurate, kept within the
lines and shows a clear light direction. Investigated why this technique might
be used.
Year 7 – Textures - plastic
Year 7 – Textures - metal
Year 7 – Textures - wood
Year 7 – Textures - glass
Year 7 – Textures - stone
Year 7 – Textures - fabric
Year 7 – Textures
Choose three of the textures and using your knowledge of
rendering make the three shapes look like the materials of your
choice.
Year 7 – Textures
W.A.L.T. (we are learning today)
by the end of the lesson you will have learnt;
How to represent different textures using simple graphics
equipment.
W.I.L.F. what I am looking for;
That you are able to represent three different materials
accurately by rendering them evenly and consistently.
Year 7 – Textures
Plenary
Two stars and a wish
Swap your texture renderings with your neighbour and state two
things that are good about your neighbours textures and one thing
that could be improved further.

How they work:
If the spider crawls
over the edge and
you can still see it,
the line stays THIN.
Year 7 Graphics
How they work:
If it crawls over the
edge and you can’t see
it anymore, the line
becomes THICK.
