 Indiscriminate exploitation of conventional
energy resources.
 Damage the essential elements of all living
beings.
(Ozone depletion and global warming, etc., )
Find out an alternate viable source of energy
eliminating the hazard’s.
Conventional Energy
Routed in harnessing the renewable energy
resources for sustaining the green environment.
Never be exhausted.
less emission naturally.
Predominant sources are sun, wind, water,
agricultural residues, firewood and bio waste,
etc.,
Non Conventional Energy
A race is going on throughout the
world in harnessing the renewable
energy resources.
Technologically advanced countries
have made rapid strides in this area.
 Efforts to increasing energy
requirements in our country.

Solar energy is the most readily
available source of energy.
Non-polluting
Lessening the greenhouse effect.
Solar Energy
IREDA & MNCES are formulating a programme to have solar
energy in more than a million households in the next few
years.
Importance extended by the government in boosting the
generation of solar and wind energy.
People’s initiative is essential.
Most suitable for harnessing solar energy for a number of
applications.
Energy generated from
carbonaceous waste of
various human and natural
activities.
Biomass Energy
It does not add carbon dioxide to the atmosphere.
Generate electricity with the same equipment.
Biomass is an important fuel worldwide after coal, oil
and natural gas.
Finland, USA and Sweden the per capita biomass
energy used is higher than in India.
Biomass fuels used in India account for about 1/3 of
the total fuel used.
Most important biomass fuel used in
- Over 90% of the rural households &
- Around 15% of the urban households.
A mini biogas digester has recently developed,
and is being in-field tested for domestic lighting.
Indian sugar mills (Around 430 Mills) are
rapidly turning to biogas, to generate electricity.
This is mainly being done to
 Clean up the environment
 Cut down power costs &
 Earn additional revenue.
Fuel cells are electrochemical devices.
Used in space flights and electric vehicles
are the best option available to
dramatically reduce urban air pollution.
Fuel cells for power generation – India has
a large gap between the demand for and
supply of power.
Ecological and Environmental impacts.
Fuel cells
The energy in the flowing water can be
used to produce electricity.
Local industries should be encouraged
to use this electricity for sustainable
development.
Eliminates most of the negative
environmental effects
Hydel Energy
 Geo (Greek for earth) Thermal (heat)
Geothermal energy is “homegrown.”
Different Geothermal Energy Sources
Hot Water Reservoirs
Natural Stem Reservoirs
Geopressured Reservoirs
Geothermal Energy
Geothermal plants do not require a lot of
land, 400m2 can produce a gigawatt of
energy over 30 years.
One well “blew its top” 10 years after it
was built, and this threw hundreds of
tons of rock, mud and steam into the
atmosphere.
Emission of Low Quantities of
Greenhouse Gasses
In India, Northwestern Himalayas
and the western coast are
considered geothermal areas.
The Geological Survey of India has
already identified more than 350
hot spring sites, which can be
explored as areas to tap
geothermal energy.
Wind energy is the kinetic energy associated with
the movement of atmospheric air.
India ranks 5th in the world with a total wind
power capacity .
present utilization is only 26 TW-h/year.
The present increasing utilization of wind energy
is highly supplementing our energy requirements.
Wind Energy
 Five Nations – Germany, USA, Denmark,
Spain and India – account for 80% of the
world’s installed wind energy capacity.
 Wind energy continues to be the fastest
growing renewable energy source with
worldwide.
 Benefit of our farming community.
 Improving the quality of life of our
farmers.
Wastage in power Generation & transmission
Energy losses
Grid interactive failure and
Deprived power management
Present problems
Combining the difference sources of
renewable energy (hybrid energy).
Hybrid Grid interactive.
Renewable energy is the ultimate energy
for sustaining human life in this planet.
