 Representation in used in media to make it 
easier for the audience to understand the 
characters. 
 An example of representation in media is 
between genders; 
 Men are usually; possessive, aggressive and 
powerful 
 And woman are presented as; weak, 
controlled, sexualised and vunrable
 These are used because the audience will 
instantly understand them. They are a visual 
shortcut. 
 They are repeated so often so often we assume 
they are normal or true.
 A universal type or model of character that is 
found in many different texts, e.g; antagonist, 
hero, metor.
 This is a representation which challenges 
normal stereotypes. 
 E.g.; weak male characters,
