 A difference in DNA sequence among individuals,

groups or populations.
• Genetic Mutation-: A change in the nucleotide
sequence of a DNA molecule.
 Polymorphism can lead to mutations.
 The human genome is 3x109 bp
 On average two individuals (humans) vary at 1 in 1000 bp
 This means that they will differ in more than 3 million bp
 ITS POSSIBLE because of recognition sites for Restriction

enzymes.
 “ variations in homologous DNA sequences”
 To determine this we must do southern blotting for

both specific sequenced DNA samples.
 After that we can comment the variations between two
samples.
 It also can be used for genome mapping
 We can also do this to determine the homozygous
,heterozygous type of two allels
Restriction fragment length polymorphism
 And DNA finger printing also possible with this

method.
 Most commonly used for law and order purposes.
