Returns Management
Building a Closed Loop Supply Chain for a Customer Centric and Circular
Economy.
Why worry about returns?
1
Because there are so many damn
returns in e-commerce.
Because something fundamental is
going on around us.2

The linear economic system needs to be stopped.
3. Circular Economy
Products should circulate in the production system,
like leaves do in the natural system.
• A circular economy could result in overall benefits of €1.8 trillion by 2030.
• By adopting circular economy principles, Europe can take advantage of the technology
revolution and increase average disposable income for EU households by €3,000, or 11%
higher than the current development path.
• This would further translate into an 11% GDP increase by 2030 versus today, compared with
4% in the current development path.
• The circular model would also benefit households in other ways. For example, compared to
the current development path, the cost of time lost to congestion would decrease by 16%
by 2030, and close to 60% by 2050.
• Carbon dioxide emissions would halve by 2030, relative to today’s levels (48% reduction of
carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 across the three basic needs studied, or 83% by 2050).
• Primary material consumption measured by car and construction materials, real estate land,
synthetic fertiliser, pesticides, agricultural water use, fuels, and non-renewable electricity could
drop 32% by 2030 and 53% by 2050, compared with today.
• 65 reviewed academic papers indicate that “existing studies point to the positive
employment effects occurring in the case that the circular economy is implemented”

The Economic
System needs to
.....
The Economic System should be Circular
The circular economy is an economic system that
is designed to maximize reusability of products
and raw materials and minimizing value
destruction. Unlike the current linear system, in
which raw materials are converted into products to
be destroyed at the end of their life.
What is an Economic System?
An economy is the system of production,
distribution and consumption of scarce goods and
services in a society.
The Actors in the Economic System?
Production ConsumptionDistribution
Question
Where should transition to the Circular Economy
start?
Answer
Production Consumption
Distribution
Start with Production (products) and Consumption
(customers), supported by distribution (supply
chain).
