Ten top tips for students
Succeed in your studies

• Look after yourself: eat well,
exercise, get enough sleep and
leave time for activities that help
you relax.
• Regularly review your revision
progress, and be flexible about
altering your plans as necessary.
• Past papers are a valuable
resource. Practise answering
past questions by either timing
yourself under mock exam
conditions or planning out what
you would write.
• In the exam, read the questions
slowly and carefully. This ensures
that you see the question that is
there, not one you might have
been expecting to be on the paper.
• Make a list of the relevant
topics, sources of information
and an estimate of how long
each topic will take to revise.
• Have a clear goal for each
revision session to keep you
focused.
• Use diagrams, colour, bullet
points, numbering and key
words to make your notes clear,
accessible and more motivating
to revise from.
• As you finish revising a topic,
create a list of questions that
you can come back to later. This
will help you reinforce what
you’ve learned and identify any
gaps in your knowledge.
• Short breaks improve the
efficiency of your revision:
try taking a 5 minute break
every 20 minutes to maintain
high levels of concentration
and recall.
• Don’t just focus on what
information you can take
in – test your ability to recall,
select and organise material
because this is what you will
need to do in the exam.
