RSCON4: Visually Inspire Your Learners!

Editor's Notes

  • #9: Glogster is a highly visual interactive poster making tool. Here are example of some of the ones I have created to use with my students and for various projects
  • #10: Guess how these images are connected to Janet. Which one is the odd image out? Why?
  • #13: Use visual and colourful mind mapping tools such as text2mindmap to introduce a new class by brainstorming different countries’ characteristics
  • #17: Photofuniafor headlines
  • #18: Create comics to encourage learners to use expressions about their weekend. They then create their own comics using vocabulary and talk about their weekend.Build up a collection of comics based around a theme, print them out. Put them up on walls for students to go round and discuss the questions, discussion points.
  • #20: Introduce an article with Tagxedo word cloud
  • #21: Dvolver is a simple movie animation tool. Encourage your learners to create animations to practise vocabulary, phrasal verbs and idioms – visually memorable and fun!
  • #22: Padlet can be used in a very visual way. Set up a padlet for new words using picture prompts / photo editing tools
  • #23: Fotor.com for creating colourful collages to illustrate projects
  • #25: Take unusual photos around your city and invite story telling, speculation, vocabulary & grammar exploitation

  • #28: You can also encourage learners to take photos of the changing seasons and use these as a writing prompt for poems, short essays, descriptions and so on.
  • #29: Take images of unusual graffiti and invite learners to comment on them. Ask learners to take photos of any interesting graffiti they come across. Present their image(s) to class and discuss their thoughts. Encourage a writing activity.
