What is a falling object?
“Any object that falls from its previous static position
under its own weight”
We are all exposed to potential falling objects:
• A book falling from a shelf…
• A plank from a roof…
• A bolt falling from 10 m…
• A rock from the ceiling in a tunnel..
They can kill!!!!!

When referring to dropped objects, consider:
• Hand tools being used at heights
• Hand tools/equipment left behind after working at height
• Operations conducted at height
• Working on a level below the work site (excavations)
• Lifting operations

• Poor housekeeping
• No inspection
• No equipment maintenance
• Poor designs
• Weather
• Lack of risk assessment
• Improperly secured or inappropriate loads
• Carrying equipment while at height
8. How to control the hazard of Falling Objects

• Institute procedures for inspecting equipment, especially lifting equipment.
• Secure tools and loose objects stored at height.
• Establish restricted areas and post warning signs under work at height.
• Institute “Stop Work Authority” if there is any doubt about safety.
• Add secondary retention and consider safety systems, such as safety nets.

• Report any unsafe condition you see on the jobsite
• Take responsibility for my actions.
• Look after my colleagues.
• Maintain good housekeeping.
• Secure all tools and equipment when working at height.
