- 1. Say-it-right! Session 2 Brainstorming ideas, problem solving & dealing with conflicts
- 2. In this session, you should be able to: 1 solve problems and brainstorm ideas 2 use modal verbs to qualify attitudes appropriately 3 use appropriate expressions to deal with difficult situations
- 3. Warm-up The following are a number of puzzles. What strategies did you use to solve the puzzle? What is the importance of understanding the problem before trying to solve it?
- 4. Puzzle 1
- 6. Puzzle 3 How do you put a giraffe into a refrigerator? How do you put an elephant into a refrigerator? The Lion King is hosting an animal conference. All the animals attend except one. Which animal does not attend? There is a river you must cross but it is used by crocodiles, and you do not have a boat. How do you manage it?
- 7. Activity 1 Each group is given a set of problem scenario. Discuss in your group how to solve them. What phrases would you use to respond to each situation?
- 8. Activity 2 What is diplomatic language? How would you use modal verbs in speaking and writing to respond to difficult situations. Discuss in pairs language used for difficult situations.
- 9. Activity 3 In groups, prepare a short role play on the given situations. Each group is given 2-3 minutes to present their role play.
