The report summarizes a test of NetApp's storage efficiency features on a FAS3240 system using various data types. Testing was done in multiple phases to measure the cumulative impact. Phase 1 found that using thin provisioning, deduplication and compression together reduced capacity needs by 79% compared to the baseline. Phase 2 examined Snapshot and FlexClone copies, and found both also significantly reduced capacity needs versus the baseline. A final phase found little performance degradation when running workloads on the deduplicated, compressed and cloned data.
