This document presents a new approach called Climate Smart Disaster Risk Management (CSDRM). It is the result of input from over 500 practitioners working in disaster risk management and climate change adaptation across Africa and Asia. The CSDRM approach identifies 12 components organized under three pillars: 1) tackle changing disaster risks and uncertainties, 2) enhance adaptive capacity, and 3) address poverty and vulnerability. The approach was developed through field research examining projects in locations such as the Mekong River region, Orissa state in India, and Sri Lanka. It was further validated through extensive consultations with national stakeholders in 10 countries.
