- 8. Uncovering the panel If you suspect that the panel is hidden by vegetation, please don’t excavate it! It is OK to remove loose or surrounding vegetation but not turf. Leave your trowel at home!
- 9. Location and Altitude Place the GPS device in middle of the panel and read off the grid reference Note: this may not be the same as the grid reference recorded by IAG as individual models may vary Read off the altitude (mOD)

Editor's Notes
- #10: I've tried finding about 400 of the 650 in PRAoWR and I'd guess I've got within 5m of the intended panel 90% of the time (there's the other 10%). Technology has improved with regards to tools within modern nav grade GPS's but the actual accuracy will hardly have shifted. Accuracy tends to come down to the individual model. For instance, my Memory Map 2800 which came out in 2009 seems to be 10-15m less accurate than my 9 year old Garmin.
