Some Questions from You
We would love for you to tell us:
• What the network automation eAcademy is
• How your task made this
• What your thought process was
• How long it took
• What parts are being used most
• What you tried but didn't work
3 | GN5-1
The Network eAcademy is an umbrella of activities that helps individuals and
organisations advancing their knowledge in specific technical domains related
to the network.
Initial contents in Orchestration, Automation and Virtualisation (OAV):
• Training, (potentially extendable to any additional areas of interest for the
community, e.g. Quantum Technologies);
• Architecture analysis and mapping of individual digital architectures from
the perspective of a reference OAV architecture, TMForum ODA;
• Maturity assessment and analysis based on the OAV Maturity Model
• Terminology and glossary.
What the network automation eAcademy is
4 | GN5-1
The training programme is prepared and offered by the community for
the community with self-paced courses and on-demand interactive
sessions with the trainers.
It includes OAV-related learning units with videos, documentation and
hands-on exercises, external references and examples focused on the
research and education community;

How our Task Made This - Why Architecture, Training, Terminology, Maturity Model...?
7 | GN5-1
How our Task Made This – The Outcomes of the Discussions
Strong need for collaboration and exchange of knowledge and expertise
Knowledge as a gap
We speak different languages
A generally accepted architecture blueprint needed
NRENs are willing to share experiences and learn from others
8 | GN5-1
How our Task Made This
• Focus Groups per Topic:
• Training
• Architecture
• Terminology
• Maturity Model
• Use Cases like CNaaS and DTN
• Wiki
• Up to 12 people
• Meetings every week
9 | GN5-1
How our Task Made This for Training
• Thorough process before starting to create contents.
• A lot of collaboration with GLAD and Marcomms Teams (thank you!)
• Monthly Meetings with GLAD Team.
• Based on Moodle Platform.
• Same approach for all the learning units:
• Overview
• Main Goals
• Content (CC BY-NC-SA):
• Videos
• Documents
• Useful links
• Quiz
• Feedkback Form

We started asking in 2019, but really talking about training in 2020.
First unit developed in Dec 2020
Network eAcademy Service in production since Nov 2022
Number of users in the last three years (distinct views per unit as of 13-10-2023):
• 2023: 2,649 (2,552 OAV + 97 Quantum)
• 2022: 1,700 (OAV)
• 2021: n/a
Institutions involved in service operations and development: 10 (RENAM, HEANET,
CYNET, RedIRIS/CSUC, RedIRIS/EHU, DFN/FAU, GRNET, CARNET, GÉANT, UKIM)
How Long it Took?
22 | GN5-1
First, the training
Then, the Architecture Mapping
And then, the OAV MM
And, in the OAV training:
• Introduction to OAV is the most popular unit (513 unique users)
• More than 100 unique users for:
• Ansible
• Data modelling, data formats and protocols – Introduction
• NSO
• OAV architecture requirements for NRENs
• Protocols: NETCONF
• CI/CD – Introduction
• The OAV Architecture Blueprint
What parts are being used more
23 | GN5-1
Phased approach (not all trainers and reviewers work at the same pace, some leave...)
What we Tried But Didn’t Work
24 | GN5-1
Live sessions are not really crowded – Are people shy?
What we Tried But Didn’t Work
