Seed processing involves cleaning seeds, drying them to optimal moisture levels, testing germination and packaging seeds for conservation and distribution. Seeds are cleaned to remove debris, damaged seeds and seeds of other species. Moisture content is tested using oven drying methods and seeds are dried in dehumidified rooms or using silica gel until moisture levels reach 3-10% for storage. Germination is tested and only seeds meeting viability standards are accepted for long-term conservation. Dry seeds are packaged in containers suitable for their storage purpose and placed in the genebank.
