Human Area Networking, also called RedTacton, is a technology developed by NTT that uses the human body's natural electric field to transmit data through physical contact at speeds up to 10 Mbps. RedTacton overcomes earlier limitations of short operating ranges and slow speeds. It works by detecting minute changes in the body's electric field using a sensitive photonic electric field sensor. RedTacton transceivers induce a weak electric field for transmission and sense changes using an electro-optic crystal and laser. This allows for interactive high-speed communication through touch with various devices and surfaces.
