WHAT IS SEMANTICS? Semantics is the study of the meaning of human language (natural language).  At one level ‘meaning’ is an ordinary English word that can be used in a number of different ways.  Semantics is not about the use of a particular word
HOW DOES SEMANTICS CHARACTERIZE MEANING? Semantics tries to characterize the meaning of expressions:  In relation to other expressions, and  In relation to the objects and situations about which they offer information.
FORM AND CONTENT A simple word like book can be analyzed at many different levels:  Pronunciation and spelling Association with books
